It seems nuts that they would try one of those guys instead of the current two guys unless they were trying to lose.
OMG They actually did it! Jarry on waivers.

Re: OMG They actually did it! Jarry on waivers.
First FLPensFan trade idea:
To CGY: Rakell, Jarry
To PIT: Kuzmenko, Zary, Vladar, 2025 2nd (CGY)
Kuzmenko makes 5.5M and is UFA after the season. He has 1 goal on the season and is being healthy scratched.
Zary is a 24th overall pick in 2020. He has 10 goals this year, had 14 goals last year, but he has 2C potential. Good skater and good two-way player.
Vladar, we would either waive or trade for minimal high pick.
2nd rounder next year fills a gap we have in our draft stockpile.
In essence, we are trading Rakell for Zary and a 2nd, and Jarry for 2 UFAs to be.
Why would Calgary do this? Calgary is fighting for a playoff spot, currently out. They need goal scoring, and Rakell would be a big help to their lineup. Vladar's numbers are similar to Jarry's, but Vladar and Wolf have ZERO playoff experience. Jarry has that.
Wolf would be the guy, as he is their goalie of the future, but, Jarry would be a better backup and better option should they make the playoffs, to have experience ready if Wolf falters.
On Jarry's part, he'd now be an 90 minute flight from Surrey, BC and he'd have a better chance at the playoffs.

I have what might be a dumb question: How does Jarry’s NMC affect his ability to be claimed off waivers, if at all?

Why not go with Larsson with big club? He is more experianced and in good form atm.

He has a 12 team no trade list (or an M-NTC...modified No Trade Clause). That does not affect waivers. If you have a full No Movement Clause (NMC) you cannot be waived unless the player agrees to it.IntangibleBeer wrote: Wed Jan 15, 2025 1:48 pmI have what might be a dumb question: How does Jarry’s NMC affect his ability to be claimed off waivers, if at all?
It doesn't sound like Dubas expects him to get claimed, since he mentioned he did try trading Jarry this offseason and there were no takers. The next question will be...do they even give Jarry any starts in the AHL, or do they bring up Murashov and tell Jarry to just stay home.

I do want to see Larsson get in some games this year, but I think they want to see more from Blomqvist. Reward him for his good play this year and last year.Pens4Life wrote: Wed Jan 15, 2025 1:49 pmWhy not go with Larsson with big club? He is more experianced and in good form atm.

I am thinking Jarry will get starts in the AHL simply to keep him active in case someone like Calgary comes calling at the trade deadline. It’s not a high probability, but at this point you’ve got to try to get something for him.

Pretty sad that someone taking him for free would be a huge win.
That should have been the last time KD listened to Sullivan.

Retain on Karlsson. Rakell and/or Pettersson should need retention.FLPensFan wrote: Wed Jan 15, 2025 12:36 pmPenguins will only save 1.125M in salary if Jarry is buried in the minors.
I don't think the Penguins will retain on him if they trade him. They only have 1 retention spot left. I would think they want to save that for a more favorable deal. Would you rather dump Jarry, retaining, and essentially give him away....or use that retention spot on someone like Rakell or Pettersson, where it could change a 2nd into a 1st.

Re: OMG They actually did it! Jarry on waivers.
Finally... after 10,000 years they addressed the elephant in the room.
Got every opportunity and was just awful. The Jarry Defence Force will argue he had this record or that. I don't care. When a team wants consistency out of a goaltender, consistently horrible is not what they are looking for! He sucks at stopping hockey pucks. One of the first five consistently goes in. Give up a softy when the team just clawed back to break its back. He's had that in his career before, but this year was just beyond belief in those trends. A goalie needs to stop pucks, win or lose, that's the job. Suck at stopping pucks and you suck at your job.
Waivers is the right answer. Just.. get him out of here for the season. If some completely off the rails GM wants to claim him, I will celebrate and offer money to make sure he is on a taxi, bus, plane, car, tricycle out of town. No such luck for us, he'll clear, but just not having him in town will improve the team.
Bring up Blomqvist, tell him he's the starting goalie. Though, Kyle, get Larsson up here too at some point. He's been terrific. Murashov immediately to Wilkes-Barre to back up whoever is there. If Jarry wants to get dressed, there's this lovely game against the Worcester Railers on the 18th. He can back up Gauthier.
Just going to put it out there.. Ned has not been good. He's had a couple of really nice games, but a few stinkers too. It's not as aggregious as Jarry or as consistently a dumpster fire, but it's third string level goaltending at best. If the next move is G1 Blomqvist, G2 Larsson, G3 Ned (or waived/traded) I will applaud Dubas.

I don't know how I feel about it, I have wanted him traded/sent down, demoted to janitor, but I also wanted him to help us get a top pick in the draft, now Blomqvist might ruin that.

I am betting the Penguins find a taker for him later this season with a pretty painful sweetener thrown in and then Jarry nixxes the deal by not waiving his NTC for that specific team. I can totally see this happening.

Imagine being the first reporter / blogger to pose the question to Jarry about what went wrong...
Also, since reports from the locker room are pretty much non-existent nowadays, if information does leak out, I wonder if Jarry was a cancer or a well liked player amongst his teammates?
As others have stated, he was certainly a good player to lead a tank job.

It seems like Murashov will be the goalie of the future and Larsson is the oldest at 26. See which one of him or Gauthier can be committed to being a long term backup and enhance the trade value of the other.
Anything can happen but the 4 best goalies in the organization are at the ECHL/AHL levels.
