With Larsson hurt, Jarry may see some action, but when everyone is healthy, I see zero reason to let Jarry take starts away from Larsson or Murashov (assuming he gets brought up to AHL).
If Larsson can't play, I'd go with either Gauthier or Castor to back up Murashov.
I'm fine with Jarry splitting time between a 3rd string role for Wheeling and parking lot attendant for the WesBanco Arena for the next three and a half years. Get him away from the NHL and get him away from prospects developing to become an NHL goalie.
No one claimed Jarry. I don't think there's a good trade to be made with Jarry. Only a trash for trash deal with differences in cap hit and term being traded, essentially.
So, how does this work. Is he now potentially stuck in the AHL for the next 3-4 years, if they don’t buy him out or trade him??
If they go that road, in theory they would be required to waive him at the start of every season. But yeah pretty much. He can play for Wheeling too, but he'd have to agree to it per the CBA.
Wow. Colorado just signed Mackenzie Blackwood to a 5 year/5.25 per contract back in December after acquiring him from San Jose the same month. Career record 90-93-26. One year younger than Jarry. Looks like a good move so far.
Basically, they're comparing his situation to that of Jack Campbell and Cal Petersen (I don't even remember the Cal Petersen situation, which shows how far he dropped off the map). Edmonton bought out Campbell, since it only came with a cap hit of $1 million + per year. LA traded Petersen to Philly in basically a salary dump, and Philly has almost exclusively had him in the AHL this season and last.
This is a great time for the transition being the team embarks on a string of away games. No baggage from Jarry and Blomqvist gets a chance to bond with his new teammates.
If he shows that he can't hack it in the AHL any better than the NHL, then they should send him to Wheeling. There is no way should he be taking starts from Larsson or Murashov with that kind of performance.
