If they trade a 1st for Zegras, they can eat s***.
I'm with ya. Zegras just doesn't move the needle for me.

Good for him I guess, but I wouldn't have wanted to pay that much. That certainly is banking on him regaining his form to being that 16 goal, 33 point guy...at a minimum. He does some other things well when he isn't scoring, and it isn't the agony of JMFC or JMFJ type contracts, but glad we aren't paying him that.

For the record, me either. The MacTavish kid does though.

The price of a dozen goals in this economy. I think that's a solid deal for how Vancouver is built.

Wouldn't be a good call for the Pens.

McTavish for the NYR 1st, Ponomarev and Howe seems fair.

Cap hit is almost identical to what they paid Heinen last off-season. Canucks will have 8.75M tied to DOC, Hoglander and Joshua for at least the next two seasons.

Hoglander and Joshua scored 7 goals so far this season. Combined.

EDIT: Sam Steel of Dallas got a similar deal for 2 years, 2.1M AAV. He's a bottom 6 C, mostly 4th-liner. Seems to be the going rate.

Quick Notes:

-Penguins are getting set to practice at Cranberry in a few moments.
-Bemstrom and Blomqvist have been recalled; Jarry sent down to WBS (so, I think they did it before his 30 day waiver exemption period ended)
-If anyone forgot, we claimed d-man Vladislav Kolyachonok from Utah. He's on the practice ice wearing #23.

First defenceman to wear 23 in about as many years, hope he amounts to something nice. Like.. a potential Grzelcyk or Graves replacement.

According to capwages, there are 15 forwards with cap hit between $2.3-$2.7 million. (Before the cap goes way up).
The average stats for these 15 players are:
Goals 5.8
Assists 8.6
Points 14.4

Range (Max, Min)
Goals (14,0)
Assists (18,0)
Points (32,0)

Hayton
Cates
Amadio
Drouin
Wood
Kuraly
Cizikas
Glass
Eller
Kampf
Fast
Kakko
Hathaway
Lafreniere
Frederic

DOC has 8G, 10A, 18PTS

Nice deal for Canucks. Not a steal, but should be good value especially once cap goes up.

Yeah I think it's a fine deal for the Canucks.

You do forget that when the cap goes up, it's the smaller contracts going up as well, by significant amounts.

From Josh Yohe today regarding Penguins plans:

-Says Crosby and Malkin are off limits, and Dubas does not intend to ask Rust to waive his trade protection.

-Says Rakell is the biggest piece they have to offer, but odds don't seem good that he'll be moved. Would have to be a substantial offer. Thinking is his cost to acquire will actually go up this summer. Dubas will listen, but it better be good.

-Thought process right now is Penguins will make smaller moves. There is interest around the league in both Grzelcyk and Beauvillier.

That was really it, other than Yohe talking about how the Penguins really like Brunicke, Pieniniemi, and Harding in the defense prospect mix. He also mentioned Mac Hollowell potentially getting an NHL shot if we trade some d-men or have injuries.

I don't think there is going to be a major splash (unless Rakell is moved) or a huge selloff, but, I also don't think Grzelcyk and Beauvillier are going to bring in anything major that helps this team next year. So, either Dubas sells Rakell now (for a great offer), or he holds on and makes a splash at the draft.

Starting to sound like we'll have a fizzle at the trade deadline rather than a bang.

I'm hoping we can flip him for something of more use in the long term. Not against having him on the roster at 1.5x league minimum.

Grzelcyk though... bad fit.

It depends on what you get for him. I don't think you'll get a 3rd so why even move him? He's a good 3rd/4th line player that is only turning 28 this summer.

Not looking forward to a 2M contract for the guy is all, that kinda stuff. Admittedly, he's not a problem so much as a minor asset. But I'd rather try a guy from Wilkes-Barre in his place and not sign him to anything north of 1.5M.

That means, we'll be signing him to a 2.5M x 2 probably.. lol

The other way I would put it...Beauvillier isn't a problem, but he's not the long-term solution, either. I don't want a team half full of Beauvillier's, but, when you look at things....Beauvillier, Glass, Heinen, Tomasino...we're almost to a team half full of Beauvillier's. Tomasino has the most upside so far. But, I don't want all 4 of these guys on the roster next year. One or two of them are enough, otherwise, they are just younger Nieto, Acciari, and Hayes....blocking spots for RMG, Koivunen, Ponomarev, etc.

At the end of the day it really doesn't matter when your starting goalie is in the minors, your defense is vastly overpriced, and all your offensive talent is over 30.

None of the WBS guys have shown they are top 6 ready. I'm not sure I want them up to play bottom 6 minutes.

If Dubas isn't going to trade Rust, Rakell or Bunting there really isn't a top 6 slot any way

Assuming the Rangers pick is going to be this year 14+, I would 100% trade the pick if we could get a legit player 23 and under.

It’s not a deep draft and we will have our own 1st.

I don't think Beauvillier, Glass, or Heinen are top 6 players either. Tomasino, from what I have seen, I'm willing to give a longer leash. He's showing that he can at least be a Pascal Dupuis type...guy who isn't really a top 6 player but slots in well in the top 6 and produces enough to stay there.

RMG, Koivunen, Ponomarev are all 3rd liners IMO, and Ponomarev may only top out as a 4th liner. Acciari and Hayes still here next year, plus Glass and Heinen. Then if we were to bring Beauvillier back....and Rust and Rakell aren't traded....and Bunting returns. Guess what, suddenly, for the umpteenth year in a row we aren't giving much of a chance to our young guys.

What I'd love to see is picking up someone like MacTavish via trade, then going with a young line like RMG-MacTavish-Koivunen as our 3rd line.

Beauvillier, Glass, Heinen, Tomasino, Acciari, and Hayes...the goal should be to get them to have good years, and sell them off for picks or prospects. Out of those 6 players, the only one I'm interested in keeping longer term is Tomasino because he's the youngest of that group and has shown the most. Beauvillier is 2nd in terms of showing well, but he's 4 years older than Tomasino.

Neither do I but I wouldn't discard one of the better bottom 6 players in Beauvillier. I agree with you on Tomasino.

Where i differ is bringing in a guy like McTavish to play 3C, this team needs young top 6 talent. I think like Tomasino i would give some leash to Lizotte at 3C.

If we are giving up futures for a young player there better be a chance they can crack the top 6 or we are better off rolling the dice drafting.

Looks like the new D man needs to learn our very complicated system and get coached by Sully before he gets into a game.

And I know Sid is out. But no more Glass as 2C. Please.
