Not saying that's an accurate take or not, but the guy has 50 followers. It's not necessarily a credible source.
He's not claiming to be an insider just posting what he heard the GM say on the radio
Right, but context is important. He's just theorizing that Rakell would be a name they're looking at. That's not like Friedman or McKenzie suggesting that however.
The teams GM said they are looking at TWs it's not far fetched that they would look at the best RW available

It's certainly a possibility.

That would bring Penguins cap space back up to... ~5.2M.

Neither of these trades make much sense unless other moves are occurring:

--SJ is going nowhere this season. Why bother acquiring Desharnais (though he is signed next year as well). A 2028 5th sounds more like SJ did us a favor to clear cap space.

--Schenn is 35 and signed through next season. Novak is 27 and signed for 2 more seasons. Neither of these players fit the goal of what the Penguins need. I would have to think we are getting some decent picks from Nashville to take on these 2 players and give Nashville the far superior player.

I think Dubas is cooking up something bigger.

Don't understand that supposed Bunting trade, better be some damn fine picks coming back.

EDIT:

NSH has three '25 1st rounders, one in '26, two 2nd rounders in '25 and '26.

I'll happily take a 1st and 2nd.

Yeah because we would be adding salary. Novak is 3.5M and Schenn is 2.75M

Bunting for Novak and Schenn is a win without picks. Novak is two years younger than Bunting, better than Bunting, and cheaper than Bunting. I don't understand how Bunting would be the better player in the deal.

Schenn can be the Desharneis replacement, or flip him.

So far, sound like nothing else. So smart people like Jesse and a few others saying they really like Novak. My thinking is:

A) How many more reclamation projects do we want to take from a bottom 5 team in the league? First it was Glass last summer, then Tomasino mid-season, now Novak?

B) The trade doesn't move the needle for me. What did it accomplish? Novak, Acciari, Hayes, Glass...none of these guys matter if they are here or not next season.

Now, short term...if we are moving Acciari and Novak has come in to take his place...ok, I can maybe deal with that because Novak is 27 to Acciari being 33.

Head scratching so far.

Have to think Schenn gets flipped to a contender for futures.

Novak is only 27 and is a solid 3C which we don't have. I

100% agree here. It’s a plus all the way around if this sticks. Schenn had a ton of value in the leave so he can be flipped for sure if that indeed is the plan.

Ignoring Schenn, trading Novak for Bunting as forward, makes us an even softer team. Schenn isn't bad, but he's an old geezer and we REALLY don't need yet another 30+ defenceman.

Don't mind flipping players, but since there's significant risk you're going to be keeping them... just no?

Why? No picks coming back?! Terrible trade, does absolutely nothing to help the team!

Unless we're trading Karlsson (or, even less likely, Letang). Then Schenn isn't as nonsensical as it seems.

I don't see Bunting and Novak as comparable players at all. Bunting's top 3 seasons are 63, 55, and 49 points. Top 3 goals seasons are 23, 23, and 19. Novak has hit 45 and 43 points, otherwise never above 30 points. 17 and 18 goals is his top end.

I like the move if Acciari is going out and Novak somehow replaces him...but all we are doing so far is swapping out mid players for mid players. Hayes, Acciari, Novak, Glass, and Lizotte in our bottom 6 leaves no room for Ponomarev, McGroarty, and Koivunen to make an impact next year.

Not saying much more because I don't think Dubas is done. But in the end if these two moves, Beauvillier for a pick, and Grzelcyk for a pick is all he is able to accomplish...not a fan.

Novak is 28 in April. More LW than C. Not a big fan of this

We're paying a 4th rounder for the privilege of this...?!

Whiffed big time if this sticks and nothing further is done with this.

Have to play it out. There are a lot of contenders who would have interest in Schenn, and probably Novak. Plenty of time until the deadline. Breathe it out people :)

In Dubas we trust??

Move Acciari out.
Retain 50% on Schenn and get a 2nd or a 3rd (not my idea, saw somewhere on Twitter)

If those 2 things can pan out, I'll like this more.

Kinda hard to believe Bunting was the big replacement piece of the Jake trade and we just moved him for a 3rd liner.
