Tomorrow at this time, the high of the day will be over and we will be hit with a dose of reality. That our roster is worse than it was before the day started and that we have nothing to look forward to until the summer when Dubas and the other GM’s begin to prepare for the draft. And once again, after the high of the draft is over we will be stuck again in the muck of knowing we have a bunch of young kids that are years away from playing in the NHL and we have at least a couple more losing seasons of meaningless hockey to watch before some of the young kids can show us what playoff hockey looks like again.

I'm gonna respectfully disagree with this assessment. It would be very difficult in a sellers market such as this to be worse unless KD wants to sabotage us which I don't see happening. Well, if he trades Sid with retention for a 5th I suppose, but beyond that it's not gonna happen.

The roster is going to be worse. No doubt about it. However, the team, with its new boatload of picks will be better. But I was speaking to the roster that we will have and watch for the remainder of the season. I really doubt there is an argument to be made that we will have a better roster.

Not disagreeing - Our roster may very well be worse, but honestly i'm looking forward to the rebuild. They can call it whatever they want, but we'll have a lottery pick this year and next. I'm hoping we can draft a franchise center (easier said than done I know) in the next couple of drafts, who can be mentored by 87.

Speaking of, regardless of the trade deadline, i'll tune in just to watch Crosby play and i'll look forward to that.

We’ve gotten used to no playoff hockey - so 3-4 more years while watching some players we draft and develop will be fun and painful at times.

The Colorado game is the perfect example of what we should be the next few years. Outplaying other teams for periods of time, but as the game goes on, just not enough firepower to beat the top teams and hockey. Exciting hockey with disappointing endings. I'm fine with that if we can watch some young guys grow and develop during that process.

Agree 100%, as long as it is youth playing the game instead of deck chairs from some other team's Titanic, just rearranged on our deck. No more castoffs...

My apologies, yes, lets hope so! Help the Tank all the more! We gotta look at the big picture. Lose now, win later. That's the way to go. :thumb:

We are tip toeing in the right direction - the issue still is Sullivan and not wanting to ice younger players. We definitely need to get rid of the same ole retread of the bottom 6 veterans we keep singing.

Glass should be our 4c next year. We can live with Hayes but outside of that, we have no need for anything else.

If we don’t have 2-3 solid rookies on the opening roster next year or at least 4-5 guys under 25 - we haven’t don’t what we need to.

If Nelson, Rantanan, Peterka and now Marchand are available I wonder how hot the market really will be for Rakell. I know that we don't have to trade him but I doubt we will get the equivalent to 3 1'st round picks. I could actually see Columbus, Utah or Ottawa with interest in Rakell. Teams on the verge like having players with term and cost certainty etc.

Marchand will be out for a while, he's 36 and a UFA. RR is four years younger signed for three more years at a very reasonable cap hit. We'll see what that affords us but it should be good if he's moved.

Just watched Sabres lose to a TB team that was sleepwalking defensively for 2 periods. Jake had a natural Hattie. Buf led 5-3 at one point. Was hoping they’d get 2 points to help out our lottery chances.

The Blues' Colton Parayko is out for 6 weeks with injured knee. Would they have any interest in Karlsson?

Friedman has Nelson goin to the AVS.

The New York Islanders have acquired forward Calum Ritchie, a first-round selection in the 2026 or 2027 NHL Draft, a conditional third-round pick in the 2028 NHL Draft, and defenseman Oliver Kylington from the Colorado Avalanche, in exchange for Brock Nelson and William Dufour.

Wow for a 33 YR old UFA! Very good player, but that bodes well IF we move Rakell.

I've been through two complete rebuilds and as long as there is a plan in place and steady progress towards building a competitive team I am on board. This rebuild has been delayed a little with Sid and Co still here but that's fine. I'm Ok with that. This summer the rebuild needs to be accelerated. Trade Karlsson. Buy out Jarry. No more older retreads. Let the young guys get the benefit of the doubt and the ice time.

Brock Nelson is a UFA. He is a center, so that ups his price a bit....but, Rakell is a year younger, has good $$$ term remaining, has more goals and more points. This Nelson just just set the price for Rakell IMO.

If LA wants him, based on what NYI got for Nelson, Rakell should be able to pull down Greentree or Clarke, a 1st, and another decent piece (2nd/3rd or roster player not a dump). I would have taken that Colorado deal for Rakell.

EDIT: Islanders flipped Kylington to Anaheim for future considerations.

That's how I see it! That's a tremendous package as Ritchie is a legitimate A-A+ prospect. Nelsons a center and a very impressive Resume no doubt. But he's almost two years older, is a UFA and has a lot of hard miles on him. Considering Rakell is signed, younger, low cap hit, it should be pretty comparable factoring all of that in. At a minimum a '26 1st and a very good prospect +cap considerations.

4th Period said there were rumors that Dallas or Florida were two places Rantanen said he would go and consider signing an extension. From what others have said, Dallas would prefer to sign him but is OK if it just ends up being a rental.

Maybe Marchment, Stankoven and a 1st? Should be a haul.

So far, nothing confirmed, but one source says Stankoven is in the deal.

That's the biggest chip off the board, Nelson also.

I wonder if the Penguins can trade Sullivan, Heinen, & Rust so Sullivan can start fresh with his old favorites.
