A lot of smoke to this one. Guess it's not done yet.

Carolina really screwed up again if they can’t re-sign this guy and lose him for nothing like they did with Jake.

Especially with giving away picks and prospects for guys to play a handful of games then leave.lemieuxReturns wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 8:24 amCarolina really screwed up again if they can’t re-sign this guy and lose him for nothing like they did with Jake.

Brutal. And there are only a handful of teams willing to trade for him because it is pretty clear he didn’t want to leave Colorado. I can see him re-signing there this summerejd43 wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 8:39 amEspecially with giving away picks and prospects for guys to play a handful of games then leave.lemieuxReturns wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 8:24 amCarolina really screwed up again if they can’t re-sign this guy and lose him for nothing like they did with Jake.

Re: Official 2025 trade deadline
No issue with Carolina trading for Rantenan even with the uncertainty of resigning. My issue is why trade him? You have a really good team without him. You have a possibly great team with him, just go for the cup and let the chips fall where they may I would never trade them.

Tough for the Jets. Basically every player that has trade protection has them on their no trade list.

Apparently Rupp was on McAfee show saying there's some noise about EK and Vegas. Getting EK would be a very Vegas move. They don't have any assets though !

I think they have a 5th this year. That would probably do it for me.KG wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 9:18 amApparently Rupp was on McAfee show saying there's some noise about EK and Vegas. Getting EK would be a very Vegas move. They don't have any assets though !

Slow start to the day, likely at the request of GMJR. Likes to have his coffee in the morning, and he's on the west coast.

Dubas said something similar in his email response to reporters, about this deadline being unique:KG wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 9:12 am

"This is one of the more unique markets that I’ve encountered leading up to the trade deadline. There’s a lot of parity and different strategies that contending teams have deployed, combined with teams that are out of the race being very clear that with the salary cap going up in in 2025-2026 and the two years beyond, that they plan to be aggressive with their acquisitions come July.
Taylor also said on the Friday Insider piece, one player told her he would put all Canadian teams on his NTC (if they had one; didn't say they did). Player said Winnipeg because it's too cold, and all the other Canadian cities because of the media frenzy. Player said a superstar like Crosby would be fine there, but a middle of the road player there is more of a spotlight on them. Player finished by saying they would play in Philly before Canada.

I'd hate to have any player on my team that complained the city was "too cold".

They also don't have the cap space. Even if they LTIR Shea Theodore, they would need either to dump cap or acquire EK with retention, which would increase the cost.KG wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 9:18 amApparently Rupp was on McAfee show saying there's some noise about EK and Vegas. Funnily also the position the Penguins were in when they traded Jake. They had a guy that was only going to play a handful of games and then leave.ejd43 wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 8:39 amEspecially with giving away picks and prospects for guys to play a handful of games then leave.lemieuxReturns wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 8:24 amCarolina really screwed up again if they can’t re-sign this guy and lose him for nothing like they did with Jake.

I saw somewhere that an someone in a front office said even at 8M AAV Karlsson would be attractive for some teams.KG wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 9:18 amApparently Rupp was on McAfee show saying there's some noise about EK and Vegas. In terms of Vegas, Trevor Connelly is their top prospect, and it would be fitting for them to trade him. Vegas has traded away every single one of their first round selections:
--2017 - Cody Glass to Nashville for Nolan Patrick
--2019 - Peyton Krebs to Buffalo in the Eichel deal
--2020 - Brendan Brisson just traded to NYR for Reilly Smith
--2021 - Zachary Dean traded to STL for Barbashev
--2023 - David Edstrom traded to SJ for Hertl

Strange deadline. I'd think TOR would try to load up. WAS, WNP, LV, etc also.
Seems like sellers set very high prices. Playing a game of chicken now?

I'm guessing there will be a lot of movement at 2:59pm then?

Re: Official 2025 trade deadline
Saying it is unique might mean it is the opposite. Unfortunately, we only hear what they “say” and not what is really going on. My personal feeling is that it takes someone to start the process in motion and that is the poker face issue about this day. All it takes is for a few pieces to start moving and then the log jam starts working its way down stream.
Sometimes those that pull the trigger early don’t always get the best results. The waiting game is on.

Re: Official 2025 trade deadline
Yeah, I thought there would be a lot more movement yesterday and this morning.
If we get to 3:30pm and we haven't added another 1st or A-level prospect, I am going to be very disappointed.
We have some attractive pieces in a seller's market, it would be a shame not to take advantage of the situation.

With RR we are in a good position. We do not have to trade him. He is signed for 3 more seasons at an amazing price. The price gets better every season as the cap increases. He is signed through his most productive years. Dubas knows this.

Zucker and Buffalo working on an extension, so that's one less name available today.

Re: Official 2025 trade deadline
As he ages his value depreciates, he's on the wrong side of 30, he could get injured, have a down year and this buyers market that is unprecedented very likely won't be as fertile as it is currently. No, he needs to get moved. Keeping a guy like that on a last place team doesn't help anyone!lemieuxReturns wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 10:44 amWith RR we are in a good position.
