lol Utah traded Shea Weber's contract to Chicago. Can't believe that is even allowed.
I really hate these loop holes.

How is Florida fitting all this in??
Cap wise? Tkachuk on LTIR and not expected back until playoffs. May not even be available to start the playoffs (heard groin issue, but not sure).

Find it impossible to believe that no one made a good offer on Rakell so I am going to say that is just not a realistic defense. Given all the other moves and the standard prices being paid by MULTIPLE teams, there is no way there was "heavy interest" and no good offer. Huge miss. Yeah, sure, you made some good moves on minor unimportant crap...you got multiple 2 3 4 picks in the 2037 draft and unloaded some trash...great...but where you needed to make an IMPACT move with real assets when people were paying insane prices, you totally missed? None of those other trades today, even though they were good in objective terms for what you moved and what you got back, are making ANY difference in the future of this team. None, barring a miracle late round find. Just when I thought maybe I had been a tad harsh on KD....he swoops in to make me realize I was right all along.
Unfortunately, you’re exactly right.

This deadline is typical Dubas. A little window dressing while really not accomplishing anything. The story of his tenure so far.

I'm fine with the deals he made but he clearly fell short of expectations

Given the prices out there, and said "heavy interest", somebody had to offer up a mid-late first and a decent prospect for Rakell, right?

Would be really interested to know KD's minimum requirements. My guess is that he preferred to keep him all along and was only going to trade him if he was blown away by an offer.

A possible reason(excuse) RR was not traded is JMKD is speculating that when free agency opens and the drunken GM's start over bidding on dog food players, KD whips out his RR card and proclaims that this player is production material still signed at a reasonable price for two years.

Or, KD isn't really good at accessing trades for non dog food players.

The organ-eye-zation is in no better shape than it was 24 hours ago. Or 48 hours ago. Amassing a bunch of non-first-round picks just to say you have lots of them is not a formula for success.

That's my thought as well. I get loading up on draft picks, but if he wanted to trade Rakell, I think it gets done. Too many 1st round picks for other players and granted they have less term, Rakell's contract isn't too bad.

Compiling assets to make future moves. He can package draft picks for a young now player. This rebuild is going to take some time. It's not getting done at the trade deadline. He can easily trade Rakell this summer, same with EK etc. KD is playing the long game. I would to if I had a 7 year contract :o

Well, it fits Dubas modus operandus.

Desharnais for 5th in '28
Bunting + 4th for Novak + Schenn
Schenn for 2nd + 4th
Glass for 3rd
Beauvillier for 2nd (an extremely late one)

And nothing.

No Grzelcyk move.
No Heinen move.
No Acciari move.
No Rakell move.
No Karlsson move.

I'll give Dubas a B- or C+ depending on more details. He's very good at the small-ball but the big swings are either not done or misses.

EDIT: I'll give Dubas a C-
Sullivan is still here at the deadline.

Tough grader.

The only player I would have moved that he didn't was Gryz. Acciari and Heinen have another year left on their deal. Nobody wanted them clearly. I wouldn't either.

Rakell and Karlsson could be moved over the summer. The team went from having no picks and prospects in the system 2 years ago, now we have the most picks the next 3 years. He's rebuilding the franchise.

I'm in the B- range too. The deals he didn't make really lower his grade

Someone mentioned defensemen injuries so maybe Grzelcyk had to stay. A Karlsson trade would be way too complicated for a deadline move and Acciari/Heinen likely weren't wanted. However, with all the forwards being traded for ridiculous returns, KD could have traded Rakell.

As of right now, I'd give Dubas a B or B- on his trade deadline.

--He gets A grades on Beauvillier, Bunting/Novak, Glass and flipping Schenn
--He gets a C for trading Desharnais. Seems like a 4th (maybe even a 3rd) would have been attainable based on d-man prices.
--He gets a C for not moving Rakell. We have no idea what his ask was. We have no idea what other offers out there were. But based on what Nelson brought back, and even what Gourde/Bjorkstrand got back, it was a big sellers market.

I’ll give Dubas a B. All moves where wins - with the faults being.

We don’t trade Gryz for anything. No point in him being here.
We don’t try harder to trade Rakell, although he’s still an asset and can be traded off seasons or next deadline.
