NHL Draft 2000 to 2024 Google Sheet

I had mentioned before that I had planned on creating an NHL draft spreadsheet to take a look at some different items. I have finished the spreadsheet from a basic level, which lists all teams draft picks from 2000 to 2024. I plan to update this yearly.

I am working on a way to provide an overall rating value for a draft choice AFTER the fact, meaning, today there are models that rate a the value of a draft pick before it is made, but nothing that really looks at the value received once a player is drafted. What's the value of a 6th round pick at LW that played 1000 games but only scored 200 points, versus a 2nd round pick that played 500 games and had 400 points. How do you rate defensemen vs forward, or goalies vs skaters? Those are the types of things that I am slowly working on to try and create a single value rating with 3 scales (one for goalie, one for forwards, one for defensemen). That rating system is probably several months away as I look for the proper way to rate games played and points against where a player was drafted.

Until then, here is a link to the current spreadsheet. We'll see how well this spreadsheet holds up as shared. People accessing the sheet should have the ability to change the filters to find certain values (ie, I want to know how many 1st round selections the Penguins have had since 2000, and how many of them played NHL games). People accessing the sheet should NOT have the ability to change values or edit/save anything. The shared view with filters may make it look different every time someone accesses it. We'll see how that part goes. I would suggest making a copy of the sheet for yourself, and then making new copies any time I make an updated sheet after a draft has occurred. I have masted copies saved locally and on another account, so I'm not worried if the Shared copy ends up getting corrupted or fudged up.

(one note on the Goalie Stats. I changed Games Played (GP) to Goalie Games Played (GGP) on the spreadsheet, to be able to differentiate between goalies and skaters. Goalies will see values in both columns, while skaters won't have a GGP value)

Being that it's late Sunday night, I didn't get to dig too deep into the weeds, but I have two quick thoughts:

Amazing amount of time and effort on your part to construct this.

Amazing to see player names associated with each pick, and what a struggle it is to make it to the NHL. Each name represents a lot of young life dedicated to the game of hockey only to come up short in a sport you love.
