Crosby points chase 2024/25

Post by lemieuxReturns »

Sid is tied with Wayne for 19 point per game seasons. If he is able to do it again this year, he would be the record holder with 20 total.

Pens have played 67 games with 15 left
Sid has played in 65 of those games and has 70 points

Crosby point per game average for his entire career is 1.25 (https://www.statmuse.com/nhl/ask/crosby ... ame-career)

12 more points would put him at 82 for the season. Technically only needs 80 since he missed two games (https://www.essentiallysports.com/us-sp ... is-season/)

And having 70 points this season, puts him 1 season behind Gordie for most 70 point seasons.

Sid is Sid. Geno is still productive as well. For some reason the last few regimes have failed miserably at providing them with more offensive support. Sid and Geno are still good enough, we just need a more balanced attack. Enough bottom 6 plugs!

Sometimes I wonder if the only one that cares less about Crosby’s points than me is Crosby himself.

Sid gets the best linemates available, while Geno gets the leftovers. It's been that way for quite some time.

Oh he cares, he could set an NHL record unlikely to ever be broken. He most certainly cares. Players like that have egos, oh yes he cares! And since they're out of the playoff picture he can largely be singularly focused in achieving that.

He's also about 90 points away from Steve Yzerman (1755) for most points playing for one team. With the way players move around, that might never be broken too.

2 points last night gets him to 72 with 14 games left. I wonder if he's ever had such a stretch in his career where had fewer than 8 points in any 14 game window. I doubt it. When Lemieux retired for the 1st time in 1997, he had only gone 3 consecutive games once without a point. And that happened late in his last season. One of his most amazing achievements. For reference, Gretzky's longest pointless streak I believe was 7 games.

It matters a lot. Sports is always about the here and now, but legacy lasts forever. It's why they have a Hall of Fame. You take pride in past accomplishments. I'm proud of all the Cups. But I also take pride in the record 15 scoring championships. Sports is about history. This is history.
