He scored as many goals as Gretzky in one less game. That's pretty impressive. He scored 41 goals at age 39, also mighty impressive.

Amazing accomplishment, yes, but some perspective is in order in throwing out comparisons to Gretzky.
One less game... and 1239 less points. Ovechkin has 1618 total points in his career thus far, and still trails Gretzky by 1239 points. That is a staggering number that is still largely overlooked. If Gretzky had molded his career on one-dimensional play and focused on only goal-scoring, who knows what his total could have been.
