Hayes gets the bounce off the glove and gets a long awaited Goal for him.Dewar with a nice play on the boards and Heinen with a good pass.

Dewar and Timmins for a 5th is another solid trade by KD. Both are younger and have been upgrades to the roster. They both play smart, fast and with some physicality. I like them both for next season.Zalapski33 wrote: Tue Apr 08, 2025 9:14 pmHayes gets the bounce off the glove and gets a long awaited Goal for him.Dewar with a nice play on the boards and Heinen with a good pass.

Good call. Both are useful players.Dubas was on it with that trade.KG wrote: Tue Apr 08, 2025 9:31 pmDewar and Timmins for a 5th is another solid trade by KD. If McGroarty can’t finish the season, wouldn’t mind seeing 7 D and 11F the rest of the year.

Another game where Koivunen and McGroarty(before his injury)continue to show their skills. They have bright futures.
Hayes will feel good after getting his 2 Goals. He's taken a lot of pucks and sticks to his face lately,he deserved a gift or 2.
Sid with another Goal and terrific game. His play continues to be top notch.
Jarry gets another Shutout and looked like he knew it was going to happen. He was engaged and looked confident.
A 5-0 Win that hopefully didn't end with a bad injury to McGroarty or hurt the Draft Position.

Yes.Unless Tomasino can return then dress Kolyachonok and go that route.Southern Fan wrote: Tue Apr 08, 2025 9:45 pmIf McGroarty can’t finish the season, wouldn’t mind seeing 7 D and 11F the rest of the year.

KD extracted very good value there no question. Granted Leafs were up against the cap but good on him for exploiting it.KG wrote: Tue Apr 08, 2025 9:31 pmDewar and Timmins for a 5th is another solid trade by KD. Sullivan didn’t do the post game presser because he “was pulled into a meeting.” Quinn handled the post game.
Strange to get pulled into a meeting after the game….

Like questioning using a promising rookie Forward in McGroarty to kill penalties in a meaningless game when he has used Acciari,Nieto and Dewar in that spot?

Well, McGroarty generally does kill penalties in WB.Zalapski33 wrote: Tue Apr 08, 2025 10:56 pmLike questioning using a promising rookie Forward in McGroarty to kill penalties in a meaningless game when he has used Acciari,Nieto and Dewar in that spot?

No issue with that being in his future. But right now his game has been effective as a Top 2 Line Wing and on the PP.He has looked solid at Even Strength playing with confidence. No need to use him there at this point in the Season.Michael74 wrote: Tue Apr 08, 2025 11:14 pmWell, McGroarty generally does kill penalties in WB.Zalapski33 wrote: Tue Apr 08, 2025 10:56 pmLike questioning using a promising rookie Forward in McGroarty to kill penalties in a meaningless game when he has used Acciari,Nieto and Dewar in that spot?
I could be wrong but I don't recall him on the PK these 5 Games.Of course I may be overreacting due to the injury.

I think that's a lot to heap on him. But maybe a directive from management was these kids having big roles right off the bat. Sullivan in this particular instance maybe took it a step too far.Zalapski33 wrote: Tue Apr 08, 2025 11:24 pmNo issue with that being in his future.

He has been sparingly used on the PK at the NHL level. And it is more of a time management issue than a skill thing. Top 6 and PP minutes, Sully said he will get opportunities here and there, but because he's playing top line and often top PP minutes, he will manage it game to game.Zalapski33 wrote: Tue Apr 08, 2025 11:24 pmNo issue with that being in his future.

It's an injury that happens. Not going to blame Sullivan for this one. According to Natural Stat Trick, this is the 3rd of 5 games since his return that RMG has gotten time on the PK. 46 seconds one game, a minute another game, and 10 seconds tonight...obviously due to the injury.

Bummer that it happened.Looked Forward to seeing him play the last few games.Hope can heal up and build on the continued improvement he showed all Year.
No blame on Sully, from what You had posted he'd been used on the PK a bit.WBS will miss him in their Playoffs.

Such a shame for McGro, healing vibes to get back on ice asap.
Koivunen also played another good game, some great passes, hope he gets his first NHL goal next game. Gotta give praise to KD for Timmins and Dewar , solid players.. for sure better than many others.
I hope we lose at least 2 out of last 3 games, to be in top 6 d.p.

High in his crease challenging shots all throughout the game. Saves down low that got kicked to the corners.
Next will be Mr Hyde Jarry.

But there is a top-8 goaltender INSIDE of all that. I've no trust that we'll ever get a consistent version of it, ever. You'd think of him as this not-quite-arrived-goalie who's on a learning curve because he's still young and all that.
Except he's 30 in a couple of weeks, halfway his fourth NHL contract, with almost 300 games. I think we've seen the full scope of Tristan Jarry and the highs (around All-Star performance) and lows (perhaps even unworthy of the ECHL) average out to backup goaltender levels. Nedeljkovic, DeSmith, you name 'em. Those guys don't have the peaks, but don't sink anywhere near as low as Jarry can and it drives me NUTS.
For all intents and purposes, Jarry should be a good, middle of the road starting goaltender. The innate talent, the learned skills, it's all there. Except when he breaks down. I opposed resigning him. Well, I would've been fine with giving him a two year 1M contract or something -- which is the same thing, no GM would offer that to a goalie of Jarry's talents, no agent would entertain the notion.
I honestly preferred, at the time, Penguins pick up some cheap dudes, throw crap at the wall and see what sticks, maybe some of the guys in the pipeline. Mind you, Murashov wasn't a thing then. Nor Larsson. And Blomqvist was anyone's guess. Still would've preferred it because I felt the same way about Jarry then as I do now. Loads of talent.. that somehow disappears at midnight when his shiny carriage turns back into a pumpkin.
If anything, I'm not angry about any of it, just find it so sad Jarry will remain a what-could-have-been goalie. His contract kinda demands he be in/around the NHL for 3 more years. But I don't see a long career for him afterwards. Maybe someone takes a flier for 1M or something as a backup or 3rd string veteran to be stored in the A? I don't think he'll miraculously improve in the next few years at any rate.

Re: Official GDT: Pens vs Hawks 4/8/25
From a skills perspective, he should be top 10-15 in the NHL. Problem is he doesn't seem to take responsibility, doesn't seem to listen to coaching, just seems to do his own thing on the ice. Even Blomqvist made game winning saves until the team got their legs. I can't remember Jarry ever playing better than the team on the ice.Puck-Lurker wrote: Wed Apr 09, 2025 3:44 pmWell, Fleury had his own struggles. Jarry is who he is. He won’t change and some of his comments are beyond just shirking his responsibility as a goalie
