I can almost bring myself to want Penguins to lose that last game. I'm this close.
Considering the fact that they just got dominated by the worst team in the conference, maybe it will be a little easier.
But they played well against good teams, so who knows...
Washington has lost their last 2, and is 3-6-1 in their last 10. I'm hoping they decide to get serious against the Islanders tonight and Penguins on Thursday, to go into the playoffs on an winning run.
Pittsburgh can no longer finish 5th overall after the Flyers loss to Columbus tonight. Here are the scenarios that are left:
--If ANA loses tonight, loses tomorrow against WPG, and PIT wins Thursday against WSH, the Penguins would move to 9th overall
--If ANA loses tonight, but wins tomorrow vs WPG, regardless of what PIT does vs WSH, the Penguins cannot finish above 8th (ANA wins tiebreakers).
--The Flyers can no longer help Pittsburgh move in the draft order. If the Flyers win against Buffalo, and Penguins lose against WSH, PIT and PHI will be tied, but the Penguins win tiebreakers.
--To move down two spots to 6th overall, the Penguins need to lose vs WSH, have Buffalo beat the Flyers, and Seattle beat LA tonight.
--If Seattle loses tonight, the Penguins could not move down to 6th. They'd be locked into 7th or 8th depending on their game vs WSH and the BUF/PHI game.
Tonight's updates:
--Anaheim gave up the tying goal with 21 seconds left. 2-2 and heading to OT. Wild gaining at least one point secures playoffs for them. In a strange but not strange move, they put Fleury in net for OT (last regular season home game for Flower). Gustavsson had played the rest of the game.
-->DUCKS LOSE in OT. A loss to WPG tomorrow and PIT win vs WSH, and Penguins will move up to 9th.

-->DUCKS LOSE in OT. A loss to WPG tomorrow and PIT win vs WSH, and Penguins will move up to 9th.
Anaheim has 79 points with the OT loss so the Penguins will be lower them with a loss to Washington.
Am I missing something with the tiebreaker? Does ROW count here? If they lose, that will keep them at 78 points and 33 wins.
Seattle wins and gets 78 points and 36 wins.
Philadelphia beats Buffalo in OT, they both have 78 points. The Flyers have 34 wins and Buffalo 35 wins.

Philadelphia beats Buffalo in OT, they both have 78 points. The Flyers have 34 wins and Buffalo 35 wins.
Tie breakers are:
- Games played (irrelevant, all teams will have 82)
- Regulation wins
- Regulation plus OT wins
- Total wins
- Mutual results
- Goals scored
Pens losing to Caps would mean 23 RW, 32 ROW, 33 W.
BUF can move ahead, but they need to gain a single point on us
SEA can move ahead as well, they need to gain two points on us.
PIT can move ahead of ANA if they gain a single point on them.
Sabres can end ahead of us, they have tie breakers on us and need to catch up ONE point. Be it PIT OTL + BUF W or PIT Reg L + BUF OTL. This would be 7th.
Ducks are ahead by a single point. Only scenario they drop below is is PIT W + ANA Reg L (which would drop us to 9th)

#6-9 is the range.
Though Seattle currently losing 4-2 to LA
Thanks, looks like 7, 8, 9, 8th if they win and the Flyers win. Rangers need to lose and Islanders need to win and they'll get 10th or so. Two top 10 picks would be a nice jumpstart, though the Rangers can still give up their 2026 pick.
Wouldn’t a Flyers win in OT over Buffalo and a Pens regulation loss put them at 6?
Flyers can't overtake the Penguins anymore. If they win in any fashion they would be equal in points with Pittsburgh, but won't be able to win the first tiebreaker: regulation wins. Penguins have 23, Flyers 21.
Buffalo has 28 regulation wins. If they score one more point than Pittsburgh, Sabres finish ahead in the standings.
Ducks were 22 seconds away from winning last night and jumping ahead of the Pens. They still are with getting the loser point, but the Ducks play the Jets tonight. Lose gracefully tomorrow boys. Wrap it up. Maybe we can get the 7th overall pick.
As of right now, Penguins are in 8th overall spot. A quick look at how the other teams impact the Penguins final position (before the lottery):
--An Anaheim win vs the Jets tonight means the Penguins can not move any higher than their current 8th spot, as they'd be 3 points behind Anaheim. An Anaheim loss and Pittsburgh win tomorrow against WSH will drop Pittsburgh to 9th overall.
--BUF can pass us with a win or OT/SO loss to PHI on Thursday, along with a Penguins loss to WSH. An OT/SO loss would put them tied with Pittsburgh in points (assuming a PIT loss), and BUF owns the tiebreakers. This would put Pittsburgh at 7th overall.
-PHI can no longer help us. A win vs BUF and a Penguins loss ties PIT and PHI, but Penguins win the tiebreakers.
-SEA losing to LA last night means the Penguins can no longer obtain the 6th overall spot.
Ducks lose in OT. If Penguins win tomorrow, they will move to 8th overall.
According to the current standings the Pens are 8th overall now and would move to 9th with a win Vs WSH? Or am I missing something?
If the Pens win in regulation, yes they will move to 9th as both teams would be tied in points and regulation wins, but the Penguins would win with the ROW tiebreaker.
If the win comes in OT or SO, they will stay 8th.

Thank goodness the season is over tonight.
Blank slate, year three.
This off-season belongs to KD.
Sullivan needs to be sacked, and if KD doesn't address the loser elephant in the organization and remove it, he really is no better than the two-headed loser GM's that set this franchise back many years.
Noticed neighter Hextal or Burke are employed in a Executive position in any hockey league.

Bring on the off-season.
So... he is definitely no better than the 2 headed loser GMs because odds of him addressing the elephant are 0.0.
I'd hardly call JR a loser GM after he brought 2 cups to the franchise.
I have a feeling JR wanted to move on from Sullivan and do a quick retool, keep icks and let younger guys compete. I think if he does they maybe have a couple of down years then are at least able to compete the last 2-3 years and who knows what happens.
