So, who’s up next? Quinn, Joel Q., Tocchet, selection by dartboard? Place your bets.
Kirk MacDonald?

Thanks for the two cups, Mike, and for revolutionizing the game for a time.

Since this is a "mutual agreement," does this mean the Pens are off the hook for the remaining years of his contract?

Hoping for Carle, but not sure if we're the young and up and coming team he'd like to leave college for.

Hard pass on Joel Q, Quinn, Tocchet, Torts. Laviolette.
I just removed himself from Blackhawks consideration (I think Saturday) so who knows why that happened. He looks like a good up and comer. If you want guys like Quinn, Torts, Joel Q as assistants, fine.

Kirk MacDonald?
He was my first thought, but I think he's too good at developing players that I'd want to keep him there. Carle is my first choice, as of now and we know that'll change, haha. If he does great, you have your new long term coach and MacDonald can develop the kids. If he fails, MacDonald has another year at WBS.

Sullivan in Chicago makes sense as well. Why would he go to a team like the Rangers where the GM is on life support , or the Bruins where they fire their coach every year?

All depends on what they agreed on. I imagine he received an excellent severance package deal. I'm fine with that, too. The man brought us two cups and a ton of great memories. Did a lot of food for the org, respectable and well-spoken.

Thanks for your time with us Sully..

..but man was it ever time to go years ago.

So long Mike, hope you get a nice gig for.. any team.. don't care if you'll start coaching the Flyers or Caps or you finally ship back up to Boston.

Appreciate the good times. So long.

Plus, Boston already had him and fired him. That said, I think they have a track record of rehiring coaches they had previously, right?

I read that Seattle could be a darkhorse candidate as they're willing to pay top dollar for their next coach.
It's probably going to be New York, but Chicago would be attractive. I don't see him going back to Boston.

Yeah. 2 Cups was a good run but his expiration date was long past due.

Idk, Dave Hakstol was a really successful NCAA coach at North Dakota, his NHL resume at Philly and Seattle would tell you not to go that direction (college coach).

I feel like this would be a good analytics questions: which place outside the NHL has the best track-record in supplying new blood to the NHL head coaching pool--college, the AHL, NHL assistants, or juniors? Of course, you have to evaluate individual candidates, but it would interesting to know if, say, college coaches have only succeeded in the NHL 5% of the time or something.

IDK, he's a top 3 coach so we want him out west. :fist:

Seriously, I think he'll succeed and do wish him well.

Noon press conference with Dubas. First question should be: “You have repeatedly said if you don’t have a Mike Sullivan you’re looking for one. What happened?”

This is the precise question I would lead with! Why the change of direction?
