Will Sam Hallam be following him to the Burgh?

Re: Hallander Back with Penguins
I wouldn't be suprised if he's interviewed. He was rumoured to be a target of a Swiss team as their HC during 4 Nations. A NHL gig would be a huge upgrade.
I wonder if he would be interested in coming as an assistant coach. The last three seasons he was entirely focused on coaching the Swedish national team.

Official from the Pens. Excited to see him get a real opportunity this time. No more Nieto Acciari please.

Betting it's a 'show me at camp or go to Wilkes' thing.

Then why would KD sign him to a one-way contract? At least that’s what I’ve heard.Puck-Lurker wrote: Tue Apr 29, 2025 11:21 amBetting it's a 'show me at camp or go to Wilkes' thing.

Re: Hallander Back with Penguins
One-way contract has almost nothing to do with whether he plays in the AHL or NHL. It only means he gets paid league minimum even if he is sent down.Wyopen wrote: Tue Apr 29, 2025 11:23 amThen why would KD sign him to a one-way contract? Puustinen is on a one way contract too, for reference. Just means they dont get their pay cut significantly in the AHL

If he can be a solid 3rd line player who could penalty kill I'd be happy. If be intrigued by a 3rd line ofPuck-Lurker wrote: Tue Apr 29, 2025 11:21 amBetting it's a 'show me at camp or go to Wilkes' thing.

Welcome back and goodluck Filip! I think he could be positive surprise next season as 2nd or 3rd line winger

Definitely. The sooner we get something for Heinen Hayes and Accari the betterPuck-Lurker wrote: Tue Apr 29, 2025 5:25 pmEither way, probably could stand to vacate a few veteran seats at the bottom 6.thehockeyguru wrote: Tue Apr 29, 2025 2:48 pmIf he can be a solid 3rd line player who could penalty kill I'd be happy. Definitely worth seeing what he can offer. His potential scoring touch added to his Youth would be a welcome addition.
Both Hallander and Puustinen should be given every opportunity to be in the Bottom 6 next season.

Hard to believe, but Puustinen turns 26 this summer. I think he has "missed his shot" to prove he can be an every day NHL player. He just didn't shoot enough at the NHL level.Zalapski33 wrote: Tue Apr 29, 2025 7:35 pmDefinitely worth seeing what he can offer. His potential scoring touch added to his Youth would be a welcome addition.

Unfortunately that has been the flaw in Puustinen's game that will likely prove You correct. His overall game is better than Heinen as a potential 4th Line Winger/Depth Player but if Hayes and Acciari stick around that may be the end for him here.

Almost literally everyone told him to shoot more... That's what confuses me. And he'd agree and then somehow don't shoot.Zalapski33 wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2025 1:09 amFLPensFan wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2025 12:45 amHard to believe, but Puustinen turns 26 this summer. Still rather see 26yo flawed Puustinen than solid 90 year old Acciari.

Re: Hallander Back with Penguins
Puusty is more suitable for 3rd line, IF... 4th line should be filled with grinders, hitters and PK guys.. Lizotte , Ponomarev are more classic 4th liners.Zalapski33 wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2025 1:09 amFLPensFan wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2025 12:45 amHard to believe, but Puustinen turns 26 this summer. I actually wouldn't hate Hayes-Lizotte-Ponomarev. If Hayes plays half the season and some other players get ice when he's chilling in the press box.Pens4Life wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2025 6:57 amPuusty is more suitable for 3rd line, IF... 4th line should be filled with grinders, hitters and PK guys.. Re: Hallander Back with Penguins
This will be the most important offseason of his career. He was misused by Sullivan but at this point it doesn't matter. Unless they get MacDonald or Quinn the new coach will see these players for the first time. No matter how much you scout Crosby and the rest, there is nothing like seeing them day in and day out. If Puustinen can come in and impress the new coach he'll get an NHL job and be there for awhile. He'll be able to earn anything from a 1st line 1st PP position to 4th line, it's up to him.FLPensFan wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2025 12:45 amHard to believe, but Puustinen turns 26 this summer. Re: Hallander Back with Penguins
Not easy for Puustinen. McGroarty and especially Koivunen built up some cred; I reckon after a good camp that's one top six spot penciled in. Dubas will keep BOTH Rust AND Rakell, so that'll leave one top six spot to be fought over and a ton of people jockeying for positions.Daniel wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2025 12:09 pmThis will be the most important offseason of his career. I wonder if Hallander signed after Sullivan was let go and whether that played into it at all

Re: Hallander Back with Penguins
Extremely doubtful. There have been rumors and comments by media outlets going all the way back to this past December that Hallander was planning on coming back to the Penguins this season.bse wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2025 1:52 pmI wonder if Hallander signed after Sullivan was let go and whether that played into it at all
And, I for one thought Hallander left after frustration with playing time. What I heard recently (DK's site I think) is that he had a son back in Sweden (not married), and that he really wanted another chance with Timra (because they had been relegated), who I think is his hometown team.
Even though he led the SHL in scoring, I'm not expecting him to come over here and be a top 6 sniper, but I think/hope he may be a legit 3rd line option with the extra experience he gained. He's still only 24 years old.

Re: Hallander Back with Penguins
No, it won't be but a new coach should be a clean slate. Maybe Sullivan had him focus on defense so much he forgot to shoot the puck? He had about 2.5 shots per game at WBS compared to about 1.5 shots per game in the NHL (career).Puck-Lurker wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2025 1:49 pmNot easy for Puustinen. Both Hallander and Puustinen should be given every opportunity to be in the Bottom 6 next season.
New coach might want a 3rd line to score, which would put Puustinen into a favorable position. He could want McGroarty or Koivunen or even Rust to anchor a 3rd line. So many possibilities, but it's up to Puustinen for sure. Same with Poulin, though he might to reinvent his game to accept a 4th line role, though he had a very good AHL season so maybe he's ready to breakthrough.
If I told you all 4 of those players make the NHL roster, might not be wrong.
