In OV’s 20 year career, he has only been past the 2nd round of the playoffs once. 2018 when they won the Cup.

That’s wild. He’s lucky he got that one cup, if not he would be viewed a little differently.

That's a crazy stat! I looked a bit more into it.

It has been 20 seasons since Ovechkin's debut:
- The Capitals qualified for the playoffs in 16 occasions. They missed it in '06, '07, '14 and '23.
- Overall, they went 8-8 in the first round and 1-7 in the second round.
- They lost in the 1st round 8 times to 7 different teams. Only team that knocked them out twice was the Rangers, in '13 and '24.
- Their 8 first round wins were also against 7 different teams. Only team they've beaten twice is also the Rangers, in '09 and '11.
- They won in the first round 4 consecutive times in that span, between 2015-2018. It was followed by 4 consecutive first round eliminations though, between 2019-2022.
- In the second round, Penguins eliminated them 3 times - '09, '16, '17, Rangers twice - '12, '15, and Tampa ('11) and Carolina ('25) one each. Their only win in this round was against the Penguins, in their '18 Cup run.
- This year's win in the first round aganst Montreal was their first after 5 eliminations. It was their first playoff win since winning the Cup.

In these 20 seasons, in the regular season they've won the division 11 times, the old Southeast division 5 times and the current Metro 6 times. They've also won the Presidents' trophy 3 times.

As I just mentioned in the Pens HC thread.... Washington is *not* the organization that the Pens should even remotely consider using to fill their head coach position.

This is a team that historically has tried to employ ex-Pens to replicate their success. The current Pens need no part of the Capitals recent "success".
