Went to a show the other night featuring a band from Philly called Rosetta. Really impressive metal compositions, kind of hard to explain.

Hadn't listened to a ton of Wilco, but they're featured on Austin City Limits this week. They were outstanding.

Also had a young folk singer named 'Bright Eyes' on. Jim James from My Morning Jacket came out and did MMJ's 'Golden' with Bright Eyes.

Very good show.

ACL rocks... some of the best 'live' performances I've ever seen were the SRV shows on ACL!

Agreed. The performances and talent are great. Seeing SRV was a little before my time, but I'm sure he burned it up.

PBS has made it even better by broadcasting the show in HD. I haven't seen many other HD shows with better picture/sound than Austin City Limits. Actually, PBS's HD programming is usually better than all of the networks' HD broadcasts.

I'm headed to the Beacon Theater here in NY on Tuesday night to see the yearly pilgrimage of the Allman Brothers Band.

Every year I go see two of the 15 or so shows they play at the beacon every year in the month of March.

For those of you that remember the old Stanley Theater, the Beacon is a NY version (A little bigger, a little more ornate)

Been listening to a bunch of mashups on Youtube this afternoon. Kinda amazing how they can get some of these songs to sync up, especially the last one.

I've also been listening to Kinky Friedman recently, to pump myself up for his run for Texas governor this year... Vote Kinky!

Yeah, it's kind of weird. You should listed to the first track on the Deerhoof album Apple 'O, just for the vocals though. the music is competely different.

Anyone have Havoc TV on cable via on-demand? Found alot of new bands there - my daughter and I would randomly watch the videos there when she was as young as 3 - she loved Deerhoof's "wrong time capsule" video - called it the "blue face song".

Other jems we found were songs by Dr Dog, Dissociatives, Montoya, Death Cab for Cutie, broken social scene and Bright eyes. DCFC is one of my favorite bands now because of Havoc, going to see them in concert in MD this evening.

I check out the videos on demand pretty frequently. Fuse is the best imo, and then havoc. Havoc had a bunch of stuff from the Black Lips if i remember correctly. Dr. Dog is a really cool band (even though they come from Philadelphia).

as for finding new music,

Internet sources: www.metacritic.com - its pulls togethers a ton of resources, rotoworld is to sports as metacritic is to music.

www.allmusic.com, it's updated daily, and it pretty much an almanac/encyclopedia for music.

www.pitchforkmedia.com, they do detailed reviews very frequently and the stuff they give high marks to is generally good.

Print sources: skyscraper magazine is good, they also review a ton of stuff and have good pieces about bands in a variety of genres.

magnet magazine, they do a good job talking about all kinds of music. i kind of have an impression that they have an ongoing battle with pitchfork.

Nice, thanks. I'll definately check those out.

One more note on Havoc - it was great on Adelphia, but when Comcast took over, it's not as good. Much less videos and each one takes long to load as you have to navigate through some screens after watching each song. hopefully, it's better on some other services.

Did you see 24 Hour Party People? That might be right up your alley.

And "what do i get?" might be the best song to come out of that 1970's UK punk scene.

Just saw Control the movie about Ian Curtis of Joy Division.

The Joy Division segment of the movie is the best part. So that would probably mean Control is pretty good. I'd like to see that, it seems to be getting pretty favorable buzz. He was really weird dude.

I thought Control was well-done. He was an interesting character and the actor that plays him does an excellent job. I'd recommend it although it's all about Ian. You don't learn much about the other guys in the band.

Latin guitar music, merengue, salsa, bachata. A friend who lives part time in the Dominican Republic has been
teaching me some of these rhythms and burned me a few discs and at first it sounded like <chapelle> drums
with latin gibberish</chapelle> but it's really grown on me, and dominating my rotation. Chicho Severino-"nunca mi faltes"
