First offers of the offseason?

Post by narcolept »

According to JB @ Penguins Insider (WBS Pens Blog), the Pens have offered 2 way deals to Kurtis McLean and Ben Lovejoy (both were here in WBS this year on AHL only deals), and will make a qualifying offer to Bissonnette.

Mac is a little older, has been here for a few years on an AHL deal. Quick skater, played on a line with Brent and Minard with much success this year. Lovejoy started the year as a one-way stay at home D-man, but has really ratcheted up his offensive game later in the year, while playing D responsibly. Carries the puck well and pinches when he's supposed to.

Everyone knows Biz, so no need for a synopsis on his successful year here in WBS.

Story Here

First offer news I've seen, from the horse's mouth I guess, for what it's worth.. [/url]

meh.

I wanna see "The Pens, today, have signed Evgeni Malkin, Marian Hossa, Marc Andre Fleury, Brooks Orpik and Ryan Malone to 5 year deals each. Terms were not disclosed."

Hey, news is news. :D You're going to see the minor leaguers resigned and the like before the big guns, I think. Getting the farm stocked and having potential 4th liners wrapped up could be said to go a ways towards resigning Hossa, as well.

Hey, no problem.

To whoever moved this, I would argue that it was Pittsburgh Penguins news, as even though those players played in WBS this year, these were Pittsburgh Penguin signings, albeit on two way deals. But hey, it's your world, we're just posting in it.

Are you sure about that? I'm sure that these deals were strictly WBS deals and for them to move to the parent club, their contracts would have to be bought by the Penguins thus they're not actually Penguins until then.

But whatev.

Biss is an RFA on a two way, who will be tendered a qualifying offer, and Lovejoy and McLean have been offered two ways. Either of them could've been bought by Pittsburgh this past year, but if they were to accept the offer, they could go back and forth. A two way would be the same contract James, Minard, Brent, Smith, Lannon, Stone, Kennedy, etc all have.

Actually, it's the other way around. McLean and Lovejoy had contracts like you were describing. Their new deals would be NHL contracts, with Pittsburgh, who would be sent to WBS if not making camp.

Congrats to Mac and The Reverend on the contracts. It appears they've earned them
