The new Girl Talk album is insane! It's so good!

Word, that rap verse he plays over Jesse's girl is so tight. There isn't much rap that I get into, but this is just ideal for me because it just takes like the best rap parts and fits it over recognizable stuff. I just don't have a ton of patience for rap, this album just flows so well and keeps your attention.

The M.I.A over Metallica bit is why Girl Talk is a big deal.

My favorite part about Girl Talk is the way he makes you pause and think that what you're listening to is actually how the original song sounds. He does that so well.

That's even like my least favorite M.I.A. track, I didn't pick up on the Metallica part. Another track i really like is from Night Ripper where it goes from the guitar part from "where is my mind" to some other part that sounds so familiar but I can't put my finger on it. Also, the Dropkick Murphys/Flogging Molly argument? You can't have one. The Murphys are a Boston Irish Punk Band... the lead singer of Flogging Molly is actually Irish. I love them both equally. And, just to swirl the water a bit, the Tossers are sweet, too.

I found an old song from my skater days on youtube last night.

Milk - The Knife Song

Originally this was used in a video, Blind Video Days, to a segment that Jason Lee skated in. Yes, that Jason Lee, who has been in a few Kevin Smith movies and stars in My Name Is Earl.

This song would later resurface in Jack-ass The Movie, although it wasn't on the soundtrack. Listen closely to the opening of the crash-up rental car segment. Now why would an unknown song pop up after 10 years after not being released anywhere? Jeff Tremaine, producer of Jack-ass: The Movie, was also the lead singer of Milk.

Going back to my skate days again (don't ask), one of my favorite skaters was Matt Hensley. Hensley would later go into semi-retirement from skateboarding and play accordion for Flogging Molly until this past year. From what I read, he's still on good terms with the rest of the band and joins them when they come to San Diego or any place nearby.

the new hold steady album is sick. its the best album for drinking beer of the last 25 years.

also the new wolf parade is far more realized than their last one.

The Hold Steady is solid, i bypass some of the slow stuff, but the faster stuff is just great.

I haven't been able to get anything lately because of some PC issues, but i'm looking forward to getting the new stuff from jay reartard, the black kids, CSS, Dr. Dog, Bodies of Water, !Forward Russia!, and the black keys.

Just got the DVD/CD Combo called "10 Days Out" in yesterday from amazon.

I was blown away! If you are a lover of the blues definitely pick it up. Basically Kenny Wayne Sheperd travels around the south and films a documentary with old time blues guys, some famous and some not, and records a jam session with each. Here is a clip from one of the jam sessions:

TV on the Radio album is pretty amazing. Okkervil River and Walkmen both also release good new albums. Kings of Leon and Bloc Party releases are pretty bunk.

Right now at this point the best album of the year comes down to TV on the Radio and the Hold Stready.

some songs got better for me, others worse, but it hasn't exactly stayed in the rotation with the staying power that random spirit lover had.

...btw, sunset rubdown has been playing like 5 or 6 new songs live. they sound fantastic on the bootlegs. it might not be too long before the next album.

California Dreamer makes it onto a lot of my playlists, i like the breakdown in language city, but the album isnt as solid as apologies. The album has a unique dynamic to it, but i think they're strive for originality and creativity mutes some of their songwriting ability. As evidenced from their solo stuff, they are great songwriters. I'm sure new sunset rubdown will be cool. I'll look out for that.

Did you see the piece that Skyscraper did about the band. It was pretty funny, I guess Pitchfork was pestering the label about what the album was going to be titled so they could post it on their site. And the band was getting tired of being hassled because they didnt title it yet, and they finally told them it was Kissing the Beehive and then pitchfork ran with it and posted that on their site and then bashed the title as being stupid.....i just thought it was funny, that site is getting too big a head.

Bows and Arrows is still their best work. You and Me reverts more back to everyone who pretended to like me, that kind of monotonous sound where the songs seem to run together. But it's much better than a hundred miles off.

The Doors are probably my second favorite band of all time
Cream and the Who come in next
The Animals, Rush, Foo Fighters, ELO, Oasis, Red Hot Chili Peppers, No Doubt, Led Zeppelin, Blackalicious, Styx, and probably Lyrics Born round out the rest of my top 15. 15 seems about right, I don't know who else I'd throw in there among my favorites. A few other west coast rappers/groups would be up there, but i'll just lump them all in with Blackalicious and Lyrics Born.

RJ's a punk? Weird, man. I thought you'd be into like... I dunno. Something much different. I can't see you at a Minor Threat gig for some reason. Maybe it's your authority status here...

Buzzcocks are awesome, too. I heard "What Do I Get" in the early 80's and spent the next few years trying to find who the hell that was. Then I got a punk buddy and he helped me sort things out. Same with the Dickies... one of my all time favorite bands. Spent a few years looking for "If Stuart Could Talk" - LOVE that.
