Yeah, I know this ain't hockey related, but wanted to post here since noone goes over to the NHR board.
In an attempt to catch up with the times, I bought a nano iPod a week ago, but I can't seem to effectively download the iTunes software. I've tried the cd software about three times, and I even tried to download everything via the iPod website...all to no avail.
When I first tried the cd, everything went smoothly through the Install Wizard program, right up until the very end. When the window asked me to remove the cd and choose whether to restart then or not, I clicked "restart now"....but then an error message popped up saying that the required disc was not in the drive....and then another small window popped up saying that it needed to close a program, with iTunes being at the "header" of the window (along with a bunch of squares). The iTunes shortcut icon is on my desktop, but when I click it, the hourglass appears for about 2 seconds and then goes away...with no iTunes window appearing. I removed the program and tried a couple more times, but each time had the same result.
I then went to the website and "installed" through that. No error messages, no closing of programs. Desktop icon there. No iTunes. But now when I click on the icon, a window pops up for about 1 second -- not enough time to read or identify -- but it looks like a user agreement because I can make out an "I agree" at the bottom (but I can't click on it).
I don't want to return the nano since this seems to be a computer/software issue, but I'm at my wits end trying to figure this out so I can FINALLY use the damn thing. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions????

I would suggest removing the application completely by using the Start - Settings - Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs. You may even want to run a system defrag afterward to be sure.
Then visit Apple's website for the latest iTunes download. Be sure to download the setup.exe to your hard drive. DO NOT run it from their site. Once downloaded, run the setup installer and see how that goes.
I've had trouble with the CD's before (we have 3 ipods at home). And, I never really care to run installers off websites due to possible communication gliches during the process.
And...I ALWAYS check the NHR forum!!!

Pitts: I removed the past download attempts as you suggested and went directly to the website, although I may have just run it from their site and not download the setup. Maybe that'll work better than what's been going on thus far.
Have you heard of these glitches before? I just want to get some dang songs on there for my walk to work!

Yes. I helped 2 kids in the neighborhood get theirs up and running after the holidays and just did another one about 2 weeks ago for a neighbor. For some reason, you are not alone when it comes to iTunes and install trouble. Try the download to the computer option first and be sure to follow the instructions completely. Although, it should be quite simple.Tocchet wrote:Have you heard of these glitches before? I just want to get some dang songs on there for my walk to work!
And, as always, be sure you don't have pop-up blockers or anti-virus running at the time of install (another reason to download the installer to your computer, rather than run off the web). They can interfere with installs.
Also, be sure to read any possible release notes on the latest software on the website. They updated recently to a newer version that supports video and I thought they were having some issues with it. If you need to, I may have an older version of the software around that I could email to you, or set a link up on the web for you to download it. I will look around for it.

I would have to take issue with that statement, Rick. I posted a pirates topic this morning, and already have 56 views. There are less posts here, but people definately do come here. You're basing your assumption on a false premise. The fact that there are fewer topics doesn't mean there is a low number of people who come to this section of the board. I mean, really. Actually I don't know what a false premise is. Or, I don't think I used it correctly here. A false premise is like a disguise. Like if we said to the caps "If you give us Ovechkin, we will consider giving you Crosby." We really wouldn't do that. That would be a false premise. Don't you have to go meet with the commisioner again, anyway? What are you fooling around with itunes for when you have serious gambling problems on your hands? I really want to write more, because my sixth grade class doesn't come in for another 15 minutes or so, and I probably won't get any work done until then anyway. So, I really didn't care about your itunes problem, I just saw that you said nobody comes to NHR. I love NHR. It owns you. It is the bomb. If it were president, it would be NHR instead of FDR. But in all honesty I hope you solve your itunes problem, really. I have itunes. I didn't really want to get it, but it allows me to download songs. I guess that's the point. Plus I can download songs for my music curriculum. I've already downloaded a fats waller CD and Louis Armstrong CD for use in my sixth grade class. Louis is the bomb. He is the man. He owns you. Well I really am running out of things to say. I hope Admin doesn't ban me for this. It's kinda harmless. But seriously, don't insult the NHR forum. That's just not cool. I come here, and that should be good enough for you.Tocchet wrote:wanted to post here since noone goes over to the NHR board.

Nano / iTunes
Was the CD in the CD-ROM upside down? That sometimes hampers an installation.
I check the NHR forum more than the HR one because, well, our Penguin's arn't much to right home about.
