Problems logging into board

Post by Jerez »

Is anyone else have the problem I keep having (no, Admin, it didn't work :( ) -- when I go to log in, it bounces me right back to the main board page. I log in again, and the second time it works. However, now all messages are marked as read.

Also, the "log me in automatically" feature doesn't work, either.

And it has happened on three different computers. I did as Admin suggested and deleted all my letsgopens and/or pookalooka cookies, but that only solved the problem temporarily (the first time after).

Anybody else? Admin, any other suggestions?

IE 6

I suppose I could check it out with Firefox or Netscape, but some of the other things I do make it necessary to use IE most of the time, unfortunately...

I was wondering if it was a Popup blocker. I've had them cause problems like what you're discribing in the past.

Well, it's not a pop-up blocker issue, because it does the same thing when the popup blocker is disabled.

However, it appears I don't have a problem if I use Netscape or Firefox as my browser. (Typical, another Explorer problem.)

But I'm not saying that's the problem for sure yet. I'll have to see what happens on the other computers.....

Weird... I've actually seen that kind of problem happen more often with Firefox than IE... in fact, I never did figure out what the issue was, but eventually the user was able to magically login again.

I'm pretty sure it's cookie-related.

Haven't had that problem, but the login automatically feature doesn't seem to be working.

Well, it's back again, after I deleted the cookies it worked the first time, but then it started up again. The most annoying part is that all posts are marked as read, so I can't keep up with anything.

What could I possibly have done to deserve this? :?

Oh, well, guess it's just a hint that maybe I'm not wanted around here. You can just come out and say it, RJ. No need to be messing with my cookies!

First, you can't leave, you have the most important job on the board... keeping Mike in line. :-)

Second, you're not running any personal firewall software are you?

Let me tell you, that's a full-time job! :D

At home, I'm using Sygate personal firewall. Here at work, I'm pretty sure they have a firewall somewhere, because we aren't supposed to install any on our individual computers.

I just don't understand why everything was working for a couple of weeks and then it suddenly went all SNAFU.

I'm telling ya, the big gorilla just doesn't like me any more...

Maybe there's an issue with the theme you're using. Try using subBlack and see if logging in works.

It's working for me including the automatic login. (Note: If you log out, then you won't be logged back in automatically.)

Hmmm, you may have just figured it out. subBlack is working. Of course, it's killing my eyes, but not much I can do about that!

(maybe I just have to think about it as reading negatives...)

I'll keep fiddling and see if I can pinpoint this as the problem. Oh, and I just ate the banana I was going to send you.

Why would the theme affect the automatic login settings? The two features seem orthogonal to me. (And the black theme makes my head hurt too).

Just for reference, I have this problem in Safari but not in Firefox, and I'm using a different theme.
