It's not polite to judge people, nor does it take an english major to correct your grammar.....probably takes a couple weeks of grade school....- People with English Degrees. It is not my fault that you can't get a job with your degree. I don't care if I use the correct grammar or spelling on a message board.
ps, I am not an english major....but some near and dear people are.

Some people's 7s do end up looking like 1s without them.Fulci wrote:Why do people cross their 7s anyway? It's not like they look like another number. I can understand when you write a Z it can look like a 2 so the cross helps the Z.
Here's a question for some of you. As I'm an American living in England, when corresponding with British people, I spell words in the British way, like "colour" and "theatre." I don't do this when corresponding with Americans though. I revert back to the American spelling. A friend of mine thinks that's silly and that I should just always use the American spellings. I guess it's a hangover from my proofreading and typesetting days where we used the varying spelling and punctuation standards accordingly depending on language and region. Even in the U.S. some spellings will vary. For a while our proofreading standard had us spell website as "Web site" and that always drove me absolutely crazy.
I'm not a jobless English major, by the way.

I think my friend is a bit of a hypocrite in that she takes on foreign and regional accents like nobody's business and I've been trying to avoid taking on any accents because I don't want to end up sounding like Madonna. But that's another can of worms...

I spell it theatre half the time anyway. Don't use colour though, no need to make myself work harder than i have to.

I have simply no patience in the world. Slow people on the road, slow cashiers at the grocery, long slow lines at the post office, office workers who slow your day by bull-crapping too much, slow people in aisle, people sitting in a parking lot aisle for 10 minutes waiting for another to pull out of the first space so they can have it (just park your friggin' car and walk a bit!), chatty neighbors stopping me in my drive way when I pull in, drivers who take 15 minutes to make a damn right turn...it goes on and on. Absolutely no patience.

Anyone remember the Wilford Brimley SNL skit? All I remember is John Goodman was playing him, he's sitting on a horse and something about him getting off the horse and onto a large dog and then onto the ground. I've been trying to find it forever on the SNL site, youtube, no luck. It was so hilarious.
Another peeve that just occurred in gchat with my friend. People who don't like snow. We live in PENNSYLVANIA. Don't ***** about the snow. Move if you don't like it. GRRRRRRRRR.

No I don't mean random english majors, I mean english majors and non-degreed grammar nazi's who feel the need to point out grammar mistakes on message boards. I'm an engineer, and I don't go to people's houses and LOL at their stupidity at hooking up a cable box to an HDTV with coax.Troy Loney wrote:It's not polite to judge people, nor does it take an english major to correct your grammar.....probably takes a couple weeks of grade school....- People with English Degrees. Irregardless is akin to nu-CU-lar for me, in that it also gives me an involuntary twitch.

I didn't read the whole thread...but
1. Spelling players names wrong on teams.
2. Spelling PITTSBURGH with no H
3. Goats
