So is the Participation's an IPA-type?LeopardLetang wrote:
i see. well, my tastes change fairly quickly. i'm surely into #9 for now. it made me interested to try some other magic hat's. so far, the participation lager is a negative in my book. unreasonably bitter. i'll let you know what i think about the other two i got.
the two punk ales i've had were nice.

i don't know man. what's that mean exactly. i just associate that with a lot of hops. but this is not a good bitter, imo. but it's hoppy.

Yeah, that's what I meant.... lot of hops. But I know what you mean about good bitter vs. bad bitter.

Anything from Penn Brewery. I am luck enough to have befriended my local beer merchant who orders me a couple of 6-packs a week.
I have also grown fond of Dogfish Head. If you want a HIGH flavor beer, try the 120 minute (18% ABV)

I know what you mean. I love beer, I love drinking beer, I love being very buzzed.....but I love drinking beer so I wont stop, therefore I get drunk, which I hate......which leads to hurling which I hate even more since Im a power puker and burst blood vessels in my eyes and face when I do so....ziggystardust wrote:PensFanInDC wrote:

Yeah, you can't go wrong with Dogfish Head. Or Rogues, or Troegs, or Sam Smith, or Victory, Great Lakes, or Erie or Michigan.
Man do I love beer. I do however hate being drunk, which poses an interesting dilemma.
Mmmmm Beer...

ziggystardust, PensFanInDC, clearly the solution to your problem is to pace yourselves. Just spread the beers out throughout the day, like once every two or three hours or so. I'm sure your employers will understand.

I drink like a German. I enjoy my beer and not pound it, but it always happens in large quantities...

Man it's been forever since I had a Chimay, one of my favorites.Shyster wrote:Just a few suggestions from the top of my head:
Ale: Dogfish Head Raison D'Etre (what I'm drinking right now)

Stout: Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout
Variety: A mix pack from any of Ithaca, Saranac, Troegs, Dogfish Head, Victory, or Great Lakes would not steer you wrong.
I had a clerk once say as i was buying a bottle
"Ah Chimay, she may she may not but after a few of these she probably will.

If you're gonna go Chimay, you gotta go all out and get the Blue (Grand Reserve).rasbatch wrote:Man it's been forever since I had a Chimay, one of my favorites.Shyster wrote:Just a few suggestions from the top of my head:

dogfish head punkin ale gets a high score.
also, i was impressed with circus boy and jinx from magic hat. all in all, you all helped me to make some good selections on beer i hadn't tried before. last time i bought a case of something i'd never tried, i think i got st. pauli's girl dark, which i wasn't happy with.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
I love all three Chimays, although at ~$100 per case right now I don’t get to drink them too much. Note: for those of you unfamiliar with Chimay, it’s a Belgian beer made by Cistercian Trappist monks in a monastery. We’re talking guys in old-school brown robes here. It comes in three varieties, usually referred to by the color of the label (red, white, blue). Chimay Red, IMO, goes great with pizza. All three Chimays are pretty high in alcohol, with the Blue coming in around 12%, IIRC.JS© wrote:If you're gonna go Chimay, you gotta go all out and get the Blue (Grand Reserve).

One beer that I'm starting to really like is Bear Republic's "Racer 5" IPA.
Oh, and Brooklyn's chocolate stout is great too.

I don't agree with you on much, but I'm a huge fan of the bear republic Racer IPA. I had it at D's this spring but it's rarely on tap around here. But when I visit my buddy in Brooklyn we always hit up this CA style bar that always has bear republic on tap...(bear republic is from CA).....They also have Hop-Obama on tapGaryRissling wrote:One beer that I'm starting to really like is Bear Republic's "Racer 5" IPA.

According to an article that was in the PG, the owner of Fatheads on the South Side loves Bear Republic beer and was instrumental in getting BR beers imported into this area, so you can expect their products to regularly be on tap there. Fathead's web page says that Hop Rod Rye, XP Pale, and Red Rocket are all on tap right now.Troy Loney wrote:I don't agree with you on much, but I'm a huge fan of the bear republic Racer IPA. The only time I've had it on tap was in Columbus, OH - is it on tap anywhere in Pgh? Sharp Edge, maybe?

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
A lot of good suggestions on here, I'm glad that I checked for such a thread before posting my own. I really wanted to find some Magic Hat Howl, but, I can't find any left anywhere -- Vinyl is out already. I had a Howl from the tap at La Capella the other evening and it was just delicious and I hadn't had any all winter until then.
So anyway, anyone with any suggestions along the lines of Magic Hat Howl that you think I might find? I'm probably going to just go browse, but, figured I'd see what I could find from lgpers first.

Meh, I'm not a huge hoppy beer fan. This is the third consecutive "black ale" that I've had that I've really liked. Still New Belgium 1554 is the best, had it the last time I was out in Colorado. Howl is the closest to 1554 that I've found around here.
