I didn't see it, but I heard the Trib put Bettis getting an NBC job on the front page of the entire paper. Sometimes there are sports stories that deserve to be there (Superbowl win, Lemieux retirement), but I don't think this is one of them...

KDKA radio had the Jerome news as the 1st story on a monday am.
John Shumway talked at least 5-10 mins about Jerome and how well
he'll do. Shumway of the Coach Cowher press conference quote:

I'm not talking about all the stations....I'm talking specifically WTAE...cause they are the WORST!!

The whole website links for me was the last straw for me...

They are all horrible. The 11pm KDKA news after the win in Denver was all Steelers except for the 7 or so minutes they gave the weather report.

If they want to do that for ratings or whatever, fine, but stop calling it the nightly news. It's not.

I really didn't mind the coverage "during" the playoffs....but WTAE still obsesses about them....and it drives me nuts.

They are ALL annoying with their Steelers coverage. I Love the Steelers and I am totally sick of hearing about them because its the SAME old crap. They have absolutely nothing new to report.

its funny how all the reporters get all "giddy" when talking about Roethlisberger..

its the reporters job to talk about the players, games etc....

no need to get a hard-on over a certain player

Oh God....it's 11:06 P.M. And WTAE-TV just concluded a 4 minute story on the Steelers DVD being releaseed tomorrow.

Does their management even realize that they do this??

Do they realize that you should never have as your 2nd story of the nightly news being the release of a DVD?

How hard is to understand that ratings drive television. The Steelers get ratings, therefore anything Steeler related gets high priority.

KDKA did the same thing on the 5 and 6 pm news.

November 15, 2002 Pens Q & A Response about WTAE football coverage:

"My initial response is that I think four of the five Pittsburgh stations with a regular sportscast show Penguins news and highlights fairly regularly, albeit with a noticeable dip on weekends. The other station, WTAE, is obsessive about the Steelers to the extent that it isn't shy about leading its sportscasts in May and June with a "Countdown to Camp Cowher" in favor of highlights from a Pirates game attended by 30,000. I'd consider that the anomaly, though, rather than the rule."
