The Penguins added a sought-after goaltending prospect to the organization Friday, signing Hobey Baker Award finalist Brad Thiessen to a two-year contract. He will report to WBS presently.

Thiessen is coming off a huge season at Northeastern, going 25-12-4 with a 2.12 GAA and .931 save percentage and being named Hockey East Player of the year.

Pens have a habit of signing Hobey Baker finalist goalies. Curry & Brown were both finalists in the same year.

To blackandgold, Chuck Fletcher has experessed a desire in the past to have five goalies on NHL contracts, so the Penguins are two below that looking ahead to next season. I would guess they'd be in the market for a veteran No. 3 to compete with Curry for the NHL backup job and one more prospect to push Brad Thiessen for a WBS job. (Maybe Chad Johnson.) So as you can see, they're really not anywhere near the point where they'd need to trade a goalie because they have a surplus.

I think Kunitz also was a finalist in 2003. Okay, I saw that on his wikipedia page, but I heard it also somewhere else first.

according to JB from the Citizens Voice, Theissen might get the start tonight in Hershey..

I'm going to the game, so if he plays I'll let you know what I think of him afterwards
