A looser version of Franz Ferdinand...pop-punk with heavy English accents and references, with maybe some Gorillaz thrown in.Admin wrote:Lots of hype on them. Great name but what do they sound like?Pitts wrote:Artic Monkeys

The NME constantly overhype bands nowadays. Every band is compared to a big band that they have no chance of emulating.Gaucho wrote:The people at NME obviously have lost their minds. Long ago.
For starters, where's "Revolver"? Just for starters.
Bands get a front cover and major press before an album has been released now. It's no wonder there's such a backlash if they show any sign of mediocrity.

They put on a good show. I was laying atop the visitor dugout in 3 -rivers for the Momentary Lapse of Reason tour. Everybody was trying to give me acid! I just said NO!Sam's Drunk Dog wrote:Pink Floyd = best band ever!
What other group has a laser show devoted to its music in every science center in the country?

Great effects excpet as I recall the pig was suppose to pee over the entire floor but it didn't work. I would have liked to see that.

Hey Az, I'm with you. I love Opeth, Queensryche, In Flames, Dream Theater, Ayreon, Audioslave, Porcupine Tree, Blind Guardian, Tool, Prong, Dark Tranquility, Iced Earth, etc.PensInAz wrote:When I am in control of the programming, I choose to listen to progressive rock and metal - bands like Nightwish, Kamelot, Evereve, Draconian, Dragonforce, Lacuna Coil, etc. I absolutely despise most modern metal that comes out of the US anymore. Much like today's "rock" it is mostly all the same and does little to engage my mind. To me, bands like Kamelot (out of Boston, I believe) are the exception to the current US metal rule.![]()
Nightwish and Kamelot are cool too.

Well, I would assume so... now we just need wire and kxm here.plasticbratt wrote:MrKnowNothing wrote:No one replied, so I'm just curious... does anybody else here listen to Wilco?
Ding ding!
Now we're talking.

Wilco is sort of an acquired taste though. When I first listened to them, I didn't really like it. 6 months later I was hooked.
Has anyone heard of Dengue Fever?

Nice to see there's so many Floyd fans here...
I've also been listening to Kinky Friedman recently, to pump myself up for his run for Texas governor this year... Vote Kinky!

I'm completely obsessed at the moment. Not quite Schnappi obsessed, but getting there...Sounds Like: A Cambodian Pop Rock Psychedelic dance party!

I think I just caught a case of Dengue Fever! They sprinkled some funk on an old school groove. No idea what she is singing about but it works.DanThePensFan wrote:Has anyone heard of Dengue Fever?

I've discovered an American band on iTunes called Verbena. Mid-90's alternative post-grunge stuff, sound a bit like Nirvana. Dave Grohl produced their album "Into The Pink" and there's some decent tunes on there. Also their album "Souls For Sale" is on there. They're pretty good, I don't quite know how they didn't gain as much success as they should have.
Also this weekend have been listening to "Come Find Yourself" by the Fun Lovin' Criminals. 8)

Been listening to a lot of Boombox 34 lately on Sirius. I was hooked on Faction and Alt Nation, but they've been playing the same crap over and over again. With all of the new music out today, there's no need to play The White Stripes 19 times a day and My Chemical Romance another 20. I wrote the DJs about it just to see if they had anything to do with it, but really didn't expect a response. Demos, who usually plays on Alt Nation, gave me a response that said he'd look into it and write back to me once he got an answer.
I've been trying to listen to a lot more local music...
Bands like The Pleasure Technicians, The Mandrake Project, Triggers, and (biased, of course) Adam Evil & The Outside Royalty have been getting a lot of spins in my car and home.
Besides local stuff, I also listen to a lot of the Flaming Lips, Foo Fighters, Led Zeppelin, Stevie Wonder, and DJ Shadow...
