Curtiss Patrick signed to professional tryout contract

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have signed defenseman Curtiss Patrick to a professional tryout contract, it was announced on Tuesday.

Patrick, 26, is scoreless with 13 penalty minutes in two games with the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL) this season.

The 6-3, 210 pound native of West Springfield, MA, appeared in a career high 50 games with the Nailers last season, recording 11 points (3+8) and 160 penalty minutes.

Patrick has recorded 14 points (5+9) and 283 penalty minutes in 107 games over parts of four seasons with the Nailers and Johnstown Chiefs (ECHL).

Right now, he would be the only one on their roster without AHL experience (although Gilbert only has a few games).

I wonder if this will change Richards' strategy of rotating the healthy scratch to the player who was worst in practice or previous game.

I have to say this. Despite the general hatred for the Patrick name here, they really are decent people. I'd bet their hockey knowledge and family history against any poster here. Don't constantly blame them for the Pen's failures, without considering the successes too. Just because the kid has the Patrick name, don't slur him because of your own personal beefs against his father or CP.

Curtis is not blessed with great natural skills and talent. But he's been mucking, grinding, fighting and trying to fulfill his ambitions in the lowest realms of Pro Hockey. Last I saw he was doing a respectable job at that level. I can't knock him for that. It was a tryout contract. It wasn't like he was given a stall next to Crosby because of his name.

I left this thread pass when it started and hoped for him to do well. I recognized it for what it was, a tryout. As far as I know he played 2 games in WBS, +1 with 1 assist on D, and is not currently active in WBS. So why even bring this point up now as it appears to be mute? Gloating , particularly well after the fact, is not a good personal trait.

I have to agree with Ron, as usual.

He did acquit himself well on this team and hopefully he gets the chance later this year or next year to move up from the Nailers. Something else he did was that he was the first Penn State grad to score a point in an AHL game. Although I didn't attend PSU, I played on ice and inline teams with recent PSU alums and so I had to cheer him for that!

Best wishes to him in the future and, to the poster who needs to bash the Patricks, I hope you realize that you will never play or manage a team as well as the worst one in that family! They have more hockey knowledge in their big toe than most of the keyboard GMs here, even though Craig ended his career poorly here.

I'm just looking at this now, and I can only assume it's directed at me. I don't really care, I was trying to be funny. Hey, if the kid sticks, more power to him. "Keyboard GM." Nice one. I met CP once and he was a cool dude, have nothing against him.
