Reirden named coach of WB/S

Post by ShipHockey7 »

Todd Reirden has been named head coach of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League , the top minor-league affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins. The announcement was made today by Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero.

Reirden agreed to a multi-year deal as head coach. He had served as interim head coach at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton since Feb. 18, after Dan Bylsma had been promoted to Pittsburgh.

"Todd clearly demonstrated his ability to be an AHL head coach by stepping into a challenging situation at mid-season and doing a terrific job for the Penguins organization," Shero said. "We have been very fortunate to have such outstanding young coaches as Todd Richards and Dan Bylsma in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, and we believe that Todd will follow in their footsteps and continue the excellent coaching tradition with our AHL franchise."

Reirden, 37, led the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to a 14-9-3 record in the last 26 games of the regular season, finishing third in the East Division. The Penguins advanced past the Bridgeport Sound in five games of the East Division Semifinals before falling short to the Hershey Bears in seven games of the East Division Finals.

signed a multi-year deal, good for him, according to JB's blog a lot of the players really respected him and their coming back to Pittsburgh (if offered) could hinge on him being a coach in WB/S

Good for him. Seemed like he was very well-liked in WBS. He's tight with Bylsma, so it'll be nice to have the same system installed organization-wide.

Its good to have a coach set for next year at both levels. Like k2 said, its good that they're tight, it'll be good having everyone on the same page all year.
