Anyone find it weird that they were called the chops and had a pig for a logo? That's like being the Kansas City Steak and having a cow for a logo. And what is the deal with AHL teams moving or switching affiliates every year?

The AHL commisioner has a dream of 30 teams with every NHL team having an affiliate. Some teams see value in operating a minor league franchise. The Pens made money off of WBS when they were losing money in the NHL a few years back.
I think one problem is some ECHL teams are doing well in markets the AHL would like to get into but instead the AHL has to go to Iowa. Take Charlotte for example. The Checkers have done great here with attendnce but hey are the ECHL affiliate of the Rangers. Why not have the Hurricanes AHL affiliate in Charlotte? You build fan interest with players who should be familiar like WBS and you get better quality hockey. But no, their affiliate is in Albany. makes no sense.
The AHL and ECHL need to get together and sort out there they should have their teams. The ECHL would be better off going to 3 or 4 sub-leagues and have a playoff at the ned like the CHL does it where they have a tournament. That would cut costs for them.
