9th curcuit ruled no one else can join the current Peruta case based in San Diego besides the Sherrif, who has said he's not appealing, Since CA has decided to let the counties decide on concealed carry only the sherrif's can appeal the decision. There's another case in Yolo County similar to change effective may issue where you need a compelling reason to carry into shall issue which is where if you meat the criteria, mostly a class with a certified instructor, you get your permit, there should never be a "need" to exercise a consititutional right.

I'm confused; what does this mean for me in Los Angeles County?

Re: Where are my Gun Owners?
Not much. This panel decision denied the requests of the state AG and the Brady bunch to intervene, and since the sheriff has declined to take any further appeals, the Peruta case should be over. But the Yolo county case (Richards v. Prieto) and another case in Hawaii (Baker v. Kealoha)—which were both decided on the basis of Peruta's precedent—have been appealed to the Ninth Circuit en banc. So while the court en banc will not be directly hearing an appeal of Peruta, the court will have an opportunity to functionally overturn that case in those other two appeals.

Okay, thanks. We just had an election for a new sheriff, with one guy saying he would increase the issuance of CCW permits and the other saying he would maintain the may issue policy requiring proof of need. The proof of need guy won by a 3:1 margin.

Re: Where are my Gun Owners?
Looking for input from my fellow gun owners. I think for my combined birthday/Christmas present to myself I'm going to splurge on a Volquartsen Scorpion, which is essentially a completely custom Ruger Mk. II/III. The Scorpion is made entirely from Volquartsen parts (Ruger's patents have all expired). I'm thinking of going with a 6" barrel, compensator, the red frame, and red laminate grips, so it will look like this but with a longer barrel:

Is the combo of red frame and red grips "too much"? I don't want something that could be labeled a "pimp gun," if you know what I mean. I could also get it with black rubber target grips. You can see other options here: https://www.volquartsen.com/products/1120-scorpion" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I think it looks terrible but I'm a fan of the "classic" looks in firearms.

Re: Where are my Gun Owners?
Too much for me. I'd do black grips and make the red a highlight color. That's about as far as I could go. I like the firearm itself, though. Fun plinker.

If you switched the red and black I might like it a bit more.

Good luck finding .22LR ammo anywhere.

When there is a shortage, the high price isn't a gouge.

Is the 2 box per customer limit a nation wide thing? Is it just Walmart doing it?

Look right, that being said. That stuff is ridiculously priced. Online, gun shows, where ever, 40s&w is cheaper ATM.

Re: Where are my Gun Owners?
Per round for 22 lr is anywhere from .08 to .15 cents a round. The old average is .01 to .02 cents around based on purchases I made like two years ago. The new norm is ridiculous when you can get a nicer gun in 9mm or 40 S&W and pay 20-28 cents a round.dodint wrote:Per round?
The value of the gun is higher and ammo is easier to find deals on currently. Even 5.56 is around 22 cents a round currently. I'd rather have any of that over .22lr and it's not going to break the bank that much either way.
Edit:
.22lr - .08 to.15 cents a round
9mm Luger - .15-.18 cents a round
40 S&W - .22 - .25 cents a round.

Yeah, I bought a ton a .22LR a few years ago. And all I have is, a single shot rifle. I guess I'm immune to the problem. I don't mean to be glib, I guess it just hasn't affected me yet. If my FIL ends up giving me that TEC-22 I'll catch up eventually.

You're one of the smart ones that bought it in bulk. I won't even look at a gun in that caliber because of the situation right now.dodint wrote:Yeah, I bought a ton a .22LR a few years ago. I ended up picking an AR last weekend and the 5.56 ammo was a steal at the moment.

Re: Where are my Gun Owners?
I bought it when we were in town and shooting the Scorpion. But the magazine kept jamming like crazy and we didn't use up the stuff.
I'd like to get an AR. Nothing fancy, just a civ version of my service rifle.

I picked up an m&p 15 sport for 600 bucks. Just a range toy so I didn't need anything ridiculous.dodint wrote:I bought it when we were in town and shooting the Scorpion. But the magazine kept jamming like crazy and we didn't use up the stuff.

The terrible thing is that I'm already looking at upgrades. Gotta get a low pro gas block, a few design changes due to them making a lower cost gun is fine with me.dodint wrote:Nice. :thumb:

Re: Where are my Gun Owners?
You can find high-grade target stuff like the Eley, Norma, and RWS stuff. I wouldn't want to buy that stuff all the time, but I would like to feed some of that stuff to the Volquartsen to see what it can do. The upper barrel/receiver on the Scorpion is supposed to be "competition grade." There are videos on YouTube of a guy shooting single ragged holes at closer ranges using a dot sight on his Scorpion, and then he put a scope on it and was getting 1/2" groups at 100 yards.Malkamaniac wrote:Good luck finding .22LR ammo anywhere.

Re: Where are my Gun Owners?
So went hunting for the first time up in New York this weekend. Got out there about 530 AM, left at dusk. Cold as hell, and didn't see a thing except a couple of squirrels. One guy shot a spike, so we hauled it back to my father-in-law's, where I watched/participated in the messy process of gutting/skinning. Of course, that was after field dressing and dragging it out of the woods.
I certainly enjoyed the serenity (not the cold) of sitting out in the woods, but man that seems like an awful lot of work.

The L.A. Times site requires registration to read more than a few stories from a certain IP address. So I'll just share the headline and a few words from today's latest:
L.A. Council wants residents to lock up or disable handguns
L.A. Council wants residents to lock up or disable handguns
Los Angeles lawmakers voted Tuesday to start drafting a city ordinance that would require residents to lock up their handguns or disable them with trigger locks when they aren’t being used.
The lawmakers are following in the footsteps of San Francisco, which was challenged by gun owners after it passed a similar law seven years ago. The San Francisco restrictions were upheld by a federal appeals court earlier this year.
At the same meeting, the council also unanimously voted in favor of new rules that require firearm vendors in the city to electronically send records of all ammunition sales to the Police Department. If a seller fails to do so, they could be charged with a misdemeanor.

Wow. In a settlement filed today in a class-action lawsuit, Remington has agreed to replace the triggers for the Model 700 and all other rifles using that same trigger design, including the Seven, Sportsman 78, 673, 710, 715, 770, 600, 660, XP-100, 721, 722 and 725.

This recall covers all models of the above rifles made since 1962. We're talking about something along the lines of 7.85 million rifles.
