Re: LGP Futbol Thread - (CL, EPL, Serie A, Liga, 2016 Euros)
Was not expecting this result from Arsenal & Man City. Have to think Chelsea is now in the driver's seat for the title by a good bit, even in January. They haven't shown any signs of slowing down & will probably buy a couple more people this month.
Arsenal, meanwhile, look to be much stronger all of a sudden. They're going to challenge that top 4 position... I would love for Southampton to be #3 or 4, which would mean Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham, or some other team will miss the Champions League.

Offside means not being closer to the attacking goal line than the second last defender. It's usually just assumed that the goalkeeper is the deepest defender, but in this case the dude in the picture was the last guy.count2infinity wrote:I'm going to assume this was a breakout from a corner or something and the goalie was attacking? There's a guy standing right there that would put him onside as well if the goalie was back.
The fact that Vertonghen was three yards on his side of the pitch when the ball was played to him negates any need to reference that, tho.

Yeah, I get that. I played soccer, reffed soccer, know the rules quite well. I was just wondering if there was another defender behind the one that's pictured in the link Rocco posted (typically the goalie). MIMH's picture cleared up that question. I was just wondering if it was doubly wrong, or just wrong. lol

Re: LGP Futbol Thread - (CL, EPL, Serie A, Liga, 2016 Euros)
Huge win today. The fact that Coquelin has looked like a god send really makes one scratch one's head as to why there's been a total lack of defensive mid reinforcements over and over again. If that game doesn't make someone like Schneiderlin worth every penny he would command and then some, I don't know what will.
Giving up that lead and ultimately losing to Southampton is looking every bit as costly and devastating as I expected it would. Should be a fun battle between those 5 or 6 teams looking for 3/4 in the table.

Liverpool's next 5 matches: West Ham, @Everton, Spurs, @Southampton, Man City. Likely won't be talking about making the top 4 after that stretch.

New Soccer fan here, been watching the premier league the past few weekends and really enjoy it! I love the fact I can sit down get comfortable and just sit and watch a game without having to worry about pausing, FF and etc.
Go Arsenal!!!!! <--- my new team for the past few weeks. Adopted them because how can you not like a team with a big Cannon as the logo.
Big game this weekend, Chelsea and Man City. Should be good.

Arsenal's a fun team. Lots of skill, lots of drama.
Possibly the most injured team every year as well.

ManU: super rich, everyone either loves them or hates them. Dallas Cowboys.
Liverpool: Used to be great, haven't won a title in a really long time. Also Dallas Cowboys.
Cardiff City: Dragons on the crest. What's that hot girl's name from game of throwns? Khaleesi? Khaleesi.
Man City: Jennifer Lawrence
West Ham United: Pick-up trucks

Re: LGP Futbol Thread - (CL, EPL, Serie A, Liga, 2016 Euros)
Yesterday, Manchester United tied Cambridge (a League 2 team, level 4). I thought that'd be the talk of FA Cup weekend.
Today, Swansea, Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester City, and Southampton all lost. Suddenly, Manchester United's result looks a little better. Swansea lost to frickin' Bristol Rovers (a Conference League - level 5 team), Man City to Middlesbrough, Tottenham to Leicester (the most respectable of the bunch, along with...), Southampton to Crystal Palace, and Chelsea lost to Bradford City (a League 1 team).

I can't take credit for that, it was from this:

and Avyran, if you need any more proof of how little EPL teams really care about the FA cup, there it is.

Wonder if they could give the 4th spot in the Champions League to the FA Cup winner if they came from the EPL and were outside the top 4 finishers? That would make solid teams care a bit more that aren't really favorites to finish in the top 3 or 4.

Wilfried Bony is pretty good. (13meg gif in spoiler; gfycat link.) It was a corner, btw, not a penalty.

I always love how the last defender who's keeping a player on the other side of the field onside always throws their arms up when the balls is played to them. Like the coach won't notice or something.
And I absolutely love Ray Hudson. He might be my favorite broadcaster in any sport. He lost his head when that play happened.

Excited about this Brazilian bavk Arsenal have added from Villareal. Now if only a defensive mid could be located.
