Re: 2010 World Cup Draw
Having to get through a pool with England will be tough for the US.

Will be tough against any of those teams not named South Africa. Mexico with a huge advantage...WHITEY1 wrote:Having to get through a pool with England will be tough for the US.

Algeria next in the group. Should get a result against them.

You never know. It will be hard for the US to ever be a top contender until it gets to be more popular in the US. Those teams for the most part having been playing together for years and always play agaisnt top talent throughout the year. Heres hoping MLS can turn into a greater farm league to help bolster US Soccer more.

Yeah - that's a much better pull.pfim wrote:Algeria next in the group. Should get a result against them.
I don't know, maybe I'm weird - I like playing the England's of the world - how often do you get a chance to see that?

Re: 2010 World Cup Draw
Algeria certainly isn't horrible, but that's the best the US could have hoped for out of that pot.

Re: 2010 World Cup Draw
Slovenia. Not the worst draw by any means. Mexico's group got a lot tougher with France. Funny how France "found" their way into South Africa's group.

Feel bad for the North Koreans, although any group they were put in would be a group of death for them.slappybrown wrote:GROUP G= GROUP OF DEATH

Re: 2010 World Cup Draw
the MLS will never be a good farm league for US soccer. If you're a good soccer player from the US, you go to europe as soon as you can.WHITEY1 wrote:You never know. Re: 2010 World Cup Draw
One of the EASIEST groups USA could have hoped for. Everybody (but S. Africa) was tought in Basket A. But US got likely the weakest of African teams plus a terribly overachieving team that was projected to finish fourth in the European qualifying group behind the Czech Republic, Poland, and Slovakia, and ultimately made it to the WC thanks to a totally lucky goal scored in Moscow during the first play-off game against Russia.

Re: 2010 World Cup Draw
I don't agree with that at all. The MLS is a good farm league to get guys to Europe. Clint Dempsey never would have gone from Furman to Fulham. Having a decent professional league in the US has paid monumental dividends, and we haven't seen the full impact of it yet.JoseCuervo wrote:the MLS will never be a good farm league for US soccer. I can't believe this thread doesn't have a picture of Charlize Theron.

We'll see how the US deals with increased expectations, as everyone will favor them to advance. IMO it's good that they get England out of the way first so they'll (hopefully) be in better form for Algeria and Slovenia.
