Re: Better Call Saul
I'm really enjoying it so far. I doubt it will ever reach the heights of BB, but I'm enjoying it more early than I did BB, I think.

Ha, got it! Should have known from the weird time signature (7/4 time):Digitalgypsy66 wrote:Can anyone name the jazz tune that was playing while Jimmy made the media phone calls this last episode? It's been driving me crazy all day.

Re: Better Call Saul
I agree with most here that BCS is good, perhaps very good, but not anywhere near epic like BB. There were so many episodes from the first couple of seasons that really got me hooked into watching every show of BB.
It's hard for me to see BCS making the leap, but I'd love to be surprised.

Re: Better Call Saul
There was no way BCS could match BB right out of the gate. They have to take it slower to build up the story lines and characters.
With that said, I'm glad that they haven't incorporated BB into it that much so far. It will be so much better if they operate as much as they can outside of that story line.

Re: Better Call Saul
I don't want BCS to be BB, I want BCS to be it's own show which it's doing just fine. It still has the feel of breaking bad which I like, but it is its own entity. I enjoy watching the evolution of Jimmy McGill to Saul Goodman even if I already know the outcome. The fact that it hooks me in even though I already know the end result speaks to the writing and performances so far.

That's a good thing too. This episode was amusing early on, but doing wills for the elderly wasn't going to be sustainable entertainment by any stretch of the imagination.

Thoughts on the episode:
Anton Karas is the man.
Old age is a massacre.

Re: Better Call Saul
I didn't really like Saul Goodman as a person in BB and was skeptical about making a show about him, but based on what I've seen so far, now I'm sold on him as Jimmy McGill .

Re: Better Call Saul
Are you a Breaking Bad fan? I don't think it's necessary to have seen it first, but I really think the big hook is a lot of us want to see his progression into Saul in addition to how Mike became who he was and got involved with Fring. I think its a good show regardless but I can definitely see me not being too interested if it were just about some down on his luck lawyer James McGill that I've never heard of.columbia wrote:I watched an episode and can safely say that I don't get it.

Kerry Condon/Stacey (Mike's daughter-in-law) is Clara from TWD. I only know this because I have to do research whenever I see a great face.

using saul as a vehicle to tell great stories with great performances like last night is awesome. hopefully they do that more, and find other characters in the same league as mike.

The Mike-centric episode this week was awesome. Jonathan Banks is a great actor.

Yeah. Being the stone faced one liner he even was in Community was good, but he really showed how great he was in this. Especially the emotional scene. You couldn't ask for a more perfect mix of great writing and great actors both in BB and this.skullman80 wrote:The Mike-centric episode this week was awesome. Jonathan Banks is a great actor.

Yeah. It's kind of a treat to get to see he and Odenkirk at work again, this time as the focus.

Re: Better Call Saul
Odenkirk is almost precisely what Cranston was before he was WW. IMO, VG is repeating success, not borrowing from it. Remarkable achievement, since this could have been really lame if it was just a redux of BB contexts.Spangler wrote:I didn't really like Saul Goodman as a person in BB and was skeptical about making a show about him, but based on what I've seen so far, now I'm sold on him as Jimmy McGill .
