Better Call Saul
Ok so after the first two episodes I think this deserves its own thread.
So far this show rules.
My thoughts from episode 1...
The black and white part at the beginning was obviously post breaking bad he really did end up managing a Cinnabon like he said he would haha. Thought that was a nice touch.
His office being in the back of the nail salon...
"Money isn't besides the point it IS the point"...
Mike showing up early on I'm assuming will be a central character...
then the end with mother F'n TUCO!!!
From episode 2....
mother F'n Tuco again. The whole first 30ish minutes with Tuco at home with the skater guys and Saul, and the skater guys thinking mother f'n Tuco was gonna be their payday...and them back out in the desert. Good times. Very reminiscent of Breaking Bad in intensity.
the line "I'm not sure if this is a situation I should look you in the eye or not" as tuco has a gun to his head
Saul talking his way out a death sentence for him and his two skater friends from Tuco... which lead to him saying..
"I just negotiated you down for a death sentence to a 6 month Probation.. I"m the greatest lawyer in the world.."
"Take off the space blanket chuck..."
Mike and Saul's continued interactions... "this isn't a me problem, this is a you problem"
Saul already contemplating a million dollar scheme in episode two.
"I'm a lawyer not a criminal"...
Just good stuff all around.

I guess we don't have to since the show has it's own thread, but whatever everyone wants.. doesn't matter to me.

Re: Better Call Saul
I'd rather not do spoilers, and just know not to click on the thread if I haven't watched it yet. But just because spoilers on mobile are a PITA

Re: Better Call Saul
I think typically in these kind of threads, the protocol is that anything which has already aired is fair game. Potential spoilers for future episodes should probably be spoilered.

Re: Better Call Saul
Can someone explain to me who the dude in the space blanket is? Is he Saul's mentor? And why is he "off the grid"?

Spoilers on the mobile are a pita. So this thread is a good idea. I love it so far.. I definitely think anyone that hasn't seen Breaking Bad needs to before they watch this. I can't wait for Mike to have more of a role. He was my favorite Breaking Bad character

There are so many subtle breaking bad refs.
Nacho character will be a good one. Saul had a relationship with him in BrBa. And he was deathly afraid of him I think

Re: Better Call Saul
I think some sites/reviewers/critics get to see stuff early just like movies in theaters. I know some sites who had seen both of the first two episodes before they aired this past Sunday and Monday. They posted a real skeleton review without spoilers basically saying what they thought in real basic ways without giving away spoilers, and then put out full reviews after the episodes aired.mac5155 wrote:How have people watched it? Re: Better Call Saul
First of all, anyone with designs on that best actor in a television series Emmy for the next 4-5 years might as well get practicing their I'm Disappoint face in the mirror right now. Odenkirk has them locked up already for as long as this show wants to air.
Besides Mike, Huell, Tuco and recurring characters (we'll have to see Gus at some point, right?), I'm looking for as many subtle references as possible.
In the second ep, when Tuco has them in the desert, I laughed at how pissed he got at one of his boys for "helping" Tuco intimidate somebody. I surmised that this idiot had kept doing it for years until what Tuco did to him in front of Walt and Jesse years later was the final straw. We can see that this dude has been warned about this before lol.

This. I wish the spin off show would have had Mike as the main character, he was awesome.ulf wrote:I can't wait for Mike to have more of a role. He was my favorite Breaking Bad character

Re: Better Call Saul
A show about his career as a cop and why he no longer was a cop would've been very good.tifosi77 wrote:This. I wish the spin off show would have had Mike as the main character, he was awesome.ulf wrote:I can't wait for Mike to have more of a role. He was my favorite Breaking Bad character

But I ultimately think "Saul" is going to be a very wise choice. It just has so many more possibilities and the character of Jimmy McGill --while we know where he ended up -- is going to go in a million different directions to get there. Mike is just, well, Mike. And while I love him for that, I don't know if it could be a whole show. It can still be a huge part of this series and I'm pretty sure it will dig deeper into Mike Ehrmantraut.
So definitely, more Mike origin as I don't remember a lot from BB (besides what he told Walt and Jesse).

I kinda get the feeling that Nacho is crazier than Tucco, but in a Gus Fring kinda way.

Mike is awesome though. His mannerisms, just his whole demeanor the way the character is played is just awesome.
Again I want to mention the cinematography from last nights episode, forgot how good it was on Breaking Bad, and it's just as good on Better Call Saul, everything just shot perfectly, and lit perfectly, and the little song snippets here and there to bring attention to certain things.

Re: Better Call Saul
You gun enthusiasts will like this one.. supposedly the show is set in 2002, right? Well, the gun that Tuco had certainly looked like a Taurus Judge... released in 2010. They dun goofed.

Re: Better Call Saul
Based on what we know about Saul, he doesn't really have a character arc. Whereas we know that Mike has a serious fall from grace; the guy who was a cop ends up being an enforcer for a Mexican drug cartel because of 'half measures'. That would make for a pretty compelling series, imo.ulf wrote:I'm pretty sure Mike does become a main character in this series
