Apparently Kessel is not making his iron man streak an issue if a team signs him. Would think a team signs him now.

Didn't he already break it this season? I don't remember exactly, there was at least talk that it MIGHT be broken.KG wrote:Apparently Kessel is not making his iron man streak an issue if a team signs him. Would think a team signs him now.
EDIT: Well not tecnicaly, I found this:
While his iron man streak only applies to regular season games, Kessel's streak for consecutive games played including playoffs will end tonight. Phil Kessel has not missed an NHL game since October 31, 2009. That includes playing in the first shift of a game, then flying to witness the birth of his child.

8 years at 8.05 million for Jake Sanderson in Ottawa.
That’s him, Stützle, Brady Tkachuk and Chabot all signed long term at around 8 million AAV. The Ottawa Sena-core.

That's a mighty big investment for a guy who only played one season in the NHL, and only scored 4 goals/28 points. I really like Sanderson and his draft status shows he will likely live up to the money...but after only 1 year...crazy to jump straight to that deal.Three Stars wrote:8 years at 8.05 million for Jake Sanderson in Ottawa.

On the flip side, Chabot, Sanderson, and Chychrun are 3 solid, young defenders.
Tkachuk, Stutzle, Batherson, Pinto, and Norris are a pretty good set of young forwards.
Biggest thing they are missing is the goalie. They should go hard after Hellebuyck to at least give their young guys a window of 4+ years to be strong competitors.

Re: 2023 Non-Penguins Related Thread
The hockeyverse consensus seems to be that the things he’s not currently good at are things that young defensemen improve over time, and the things he’s good at can’t really be taught. So, this is an educated gamble that actually has a reasonable chance of paying off.FLPensFan wrote:That's a mighty big investment for a guy who only played one season in the NHL, and only scored 4 goals/28 points. This would be called the "fingers crossed that Penguins want to get a look at POJ and Smith, decide which one they want to keep, trade the other along with Carter to clear up cap space, and sign Tatar" scenario.Coffey Break wrote:Per Friedman: "Tomas Tatar has switched agents, and is believed to be leaning somewhere east"

Somewhere east could be Europe as much as anything else. I haven't looked in awhile but the combined cap space for the teams Tatar would want to join might not even accomodate Connor McDavid's salary. Not sure there are a lot of options for Tatar right now, not because of want/need but because of cap space.FLPensFan wrote:This would be called the "fingers crossed that Penguins want to get a look at POJ and Smith, decide which one they want to keep, trade the other along with Carter to clear up cap space, and sign Tatar" scenario.Coffey Break wrote:Per Friedman: "Tomas Tatar has switched agents, and is believed to be leaning somewhere east"

I imagine a lot of teams have because they can't fit him under the cap. Sad thing is, they can likely get him with less than Carter's salary.FLPensFan wrote:The talk that I saw online was that the Penguins have moved on from Tatar.Daniel wrote:Somewhere east could be Europe as much as anything else. Just read that Tatar’s new agent is the agent for many Islanders. Could see him going there for sure.

Islanders are further above the cap right now than the Penguins, so not sure how he would fit there.Pitts wrote:This is the list: Josh Bailey, Cal Clutterbuck, Casey Cizikas, Matt Martin, Bo Horvat, J.G. Ottawa was a team mentioned, but, they have about 900K in cap space with 18 healthy players, and still need to sign a new deal for Shane Pinto (who should probably be looking at 3M range, at least).
