Timo Meier has been traded from the Sharks to the Devils. His salary is 50% retained. Another Sharks player is speculated to be going with him. There is no contract extension as part of this, at least as of yet.

No word on the return.

To set the table for Timo Meier, #sjsharks turned down some big offers in recent days.

Team 1: 1st rd pick, 2nd rd pick, top prospect

Team 2: 1st rd pick, recent 1st rd pick, mid-tier prospect

Both teams had other asks - cap or roster considerations - but this will be sizable.

If it's not Zetterland or Mercer, it's likely Alexandre Holtz. Also heard it is not Nemec, but not certain.

Or as some have said...do the Devils even know what they gave up?

I'm guessing the 2nd 1st rounder is conditional on him resigning?

Here's NJ Devils official Twitter account post on the Meier trade:

NJ gets:
-forwards Timo Meier and Igor Timur Ibragimov, d-men Scott Harrington and Santeri Hatakka, goalie Zachary Edmund and a 2025 5th rounder (originally Colorado's pick)

SJ gets:
-2023 1st rounder (conditional), defensemen Shakir Mukhamadullin and Nikita Okhotiuk, forwards Andreas Johnsson and Fabian Zetterlund, a 2024 conditional 2nd, and a 2024 7th round pick

SJ retains 50% on Meier.

That sounds like a win for NJ if they get Meier re-signed. I'm not an expert in their system...but no Mercer, no Holtz, and no Nemec in that deal is a steal for NJ. Those are likely their 3 top prospects.
