To answer your question, I have never been there and know nothing about it...I guess I didn't answer your question.

Any other reccomendations for Seattle? I'm planning on checking out the space needle, pikes place, and a mariners game. I'm looking for any tips on restaurants and also suggestions for catching the pens game on Friday. I'd assume that pretty much any sports bar will have NBC Sports and will turn it on but a place with a hockey-type atmosphere would be nice.

Anyone ever go on an all-inclusive trip within the US? I'd love to drive somewhere instead of fly.

There's a Norwegian area just outside of town a bit. I can't remember the name of the town, but it was kind of neat (my old lady is Norwegian).Nuge wrote:Any other reccomendations for Seattle? Mt. Si is also worth a look. It's got an awful beach, but the hike around the trails are OK. I think that's where there is a pretty spectacular waterfall too.

I think i'm going to go to the beach next weekend. I'm guessing it won't be quite the same as the Caribbean was last month.

Cedar Point? Never actually been there before and am thinking about a few days in late July during the week.
Is it worth staying at The Breakers?

I'm flying to Norway tomorrow. This better be worth it ("this" being the fjords and "it" being the terror that flight induces in me).

We stayed at a random hotel, I want to say it was a rodeway inn. It was cheap, real cheap. I dunno about breakers, but it is worth it to do a 2 day pass to the park and waterparkpittsoccer33 wrote:Cedar Point? Up by the Space Needle is the Experience Music Project, sort of a rock'n'roll museum that was pretty much entirely funded out of the pocket of Paul Allen of Microsoft. Building was designed by Frank Gehry, and it's a pretty cool afternoon. Included with admission is the Science Fiction Museum, the coolness of which is largely dependent upon the rotating exhibits that happen to be in the museum when you go. (When I went they had a "Battlestar Galactica" thing going on, so I was happy.)Nuge wrote:Any other reccomendations for Seattle? We had a fun day trip out of going to Bainbridge Island. There's not that much to do on the island itself, but the ferry ride offers some great views, especially if the mountain is out.
The online cooking school I'm a member of is based out of the Pike, so there are always a lot of great local sights and scenes popping up on their Pinterest board. One place I'd highly recommend is Spur Gastropub in Belltown.

Breakers is a nice hotel. Stayed there about 10 years ago or so.
If you're going during the week and no kids and only want to ride roller coasters, you can bang them all out in one day.
Friend and I went on a random Wednesday last summer and did all the coasters + a couple other rides in about 7 hours. I think we spent more time in line for just the Dragster than all the other coasters combined.

I just sent our requests for dinner reservations for our honeymoon at the iberostar grand hotel bavaro in Dominican. Man I cant wait to get there. So far it's been a great experience working with the concierges. I guess I'll find out if they follow through when I show up at the front desk.

Yeah the Hibachi place they had inside last time I was there was great. I've stayed a couple times. Real nice to walk out onto the lake beach and be right next to the park so you can go back to the hotel mid day if you want to and not have to drive.Beveridge wrote:mac5155 wrote:We stayed at a random hotel, I want to say it was a rodeway inn. Re: The Travel Thread
Family making a trip to Chicago in a couple weeks, staying 2 blocks west of Navy Pier. We are taking the train in so we will have no car, planning on walking mostly everywhere. We are staying 3 nights and have planned out
a day for Navy Pier and Childrens museum
a day for millennium park and maybe willis tower
and a day for magnificent mile shopping and ?
kids want to dedicate a day for pizza (breakfast, lunch and dinner) - anyone have suggestions for that part of the city?
we looked at the city pass, but ultimately the kids wanted to do the above so we were going to skip it this time. Still looking for something to fill in a day as well, any help?

When I went last year we went to Lou Malnati's and Giordano's. I think they both have multiple locations but I know there is a Giordano's right next to the Willis Tower.eddysnake wrote:Family making a trip to Chicago in a couple weeks, staying 2 blocks west of Navy Pier. I like Lou Malnati's better if that matters.

In two weeks I'll be going to the shores of New Jersey (Wildwood), which I often visited as a child. I'm going in large part to support the area because it was hit by Sandy last fall. Most of it was salvaged, but that hurricane took part of my childhood away and I want to show my support to the area.

Re: The Travel Thread
Definitely hit Wrigley Field, although I don't know how old your kids are. The train ride/length of the game may be a bit long for them. I wasn't very impressed with Navy Pier. You probably don't need a whole day just for that. The Willis Tower skydeck was sweet. They have glass boxes that stick out from side of the building so when you step out on it your basically surrounded by nothing but glass. I would also reccomend a boat tour along the river.eddysnake wrote:Family making a trip to Chicago in a couple weeks, staying 2 blocks west of Navy Pier. Yeah, I'm not sure you need an entire day for Navy Pier or Millenium Park.

You might want to plan for some other stuff. I was in Chicago a few months ago and we could have done all of those things in 1 day. I didn't like the Navy Pier at all. Was probably the most boring part of the trip.. but I don't have kids either. Willis Tower and Hancock Tower were both awesome. I recommend going to both. The aquarium is pretty cool too. We did an architecture boat tour which was really nice. The only deep dish pizza we had was Giordanos and it was awesome. They also have some double-decker bus tours that are great.. they have like 12 stops all over the city. You can get on and off the buses as you please. Was great for getting around the city. Not sure if the Cubs will be in town or not but go see a game at Wrigley too.
