I really want to travel around the world, but I probably will never have the money to see everything. What are some of the best places to see and some of the lesser known places that would be a fantastic thing to find? I am trying to plan a trip for when I finally graduate (summer 2014 ) and input would be great. Can never be too early to plan something.

The coolest places I've been were Mt. Pilatus in Switzerland, and Munich Germany.

My girlfriend recently found out she'll be a bridesmaid in a wedding in Hawaii June 2013. I'm pretty pumped because I've always wanted to go to Hawaii. On my recently out of college salary, it's going to be tough. I probably shouldn't spend the cash, but I really hope I'm financially irresponsible enough to do it. I've never booked my own flight anywhere. Anyone have tips on how I can get the cheapest flight?

but pertaining to your question, try and get a couple friends (I know how hard it is to get friends to save up a good amount for a trip) and eurotrip. I think a road trip across the states would be awesome. Tried organizing one during our last summer before we all graduated and took jobs but no one was keen on spending a couple grand.

I haven't been to many "lesser known" places.. but an amazing place you have to visit is Hawaii. The only island I was on was Maui but it was freaking incredible.

Best 'bang for the buck'? IMHO, the Greek Isles.

Most exotic? the Maldives.

Tropic wonderland (when price is no object)? Hawaii (do Maui and Kauai as well as Oahu)

Art, history, museums, culture? Italy (you can fly into Venice and drive down to Sorrento hitting Rome in the process)

My next dream trip? Chile and Argentina (including Patagonia)

If you can take a trip like this before you have kids... By all means do it. You won't regret it.

Is traveling abroad as dangerous as some make it seem? Like knife crime and worrying about pick pockets? Also any advice on staying safe and keeping valuables (passports, credit cards, money, phones) safe?

Depends where you are, but for the most part, no. Just don't act like a dumb American tourist.

Rome is positively rife with thieving gypsy bastards. Be extra smart there.

I highly recommend Dublin. One of the friendliest cities I've ever visited...really felt at home there.

The wife and I are going on our honeymoon to both Ireland and Italy that's why I was asking. Everyone has said about the same. Ireland: everyone is friendly awesome country. Italy: thieves and pick pockets, don't be stupid with important stuff.

Getting out of the box here... Costa Rica was fun. It was the trip my friends and I went on about a year out of college. Didn't really spend a ton on the trip, but we flew into San Jose, rented a car, and drove down the Pacific coast hitting the main cities along the way. No schedule or itinerary so we could do as we pleased. Worked out well in most cases for hotel, only ok in some. For example, we got the best room in all of Jaco (penthouse room in the highest hotel - only 8 floors) but we got a pretty "meh" place in the first city we were in... can't remember the name right now.

It was lots of fun and different from the typical "tour Europe" answers, although both are equally fun.

I am a big fan of Grand Cayman. Very clean, everyone really and not as busy as some of the other areas of the Caribbean. I could live there.

Pick pockets, yes. Dangerous? Not really.

Always keep your money in multiple different places (like some in a money belt, some in your pocket, and some in your wallet). If you don't need your passport, don't carry it around with you. If you can avoid bringing a backpack, that would be best. I've seen the aftermath of someone slitting the bottom of a backpack and losing everything inside. If you want to be extra safe, there are little carriers for passports/cards/money that you can string around your neck and put under your shirt.

If you are traveling in Europe, look for hostels that have lockers to put your stuff in (where you carry the key). The way things get stolen is people not locking up luggage before heading out to sightsee. If you are traveling in the summer, prices are much higher. I have traveled for spring breaks to europe for three years now, and only spend $10 a night for hostels. To give you an indication of price, for two weeks of traveling between 2 countries (not including round trip tickets from the US) it cost me about $750, and I did not eat out often.

I have to be careful. Like I can't do things like hike anymore, so I have to stick to more urban stuff now. So things like seeing European cities are better. But I would definitely make sure to lock my stuff up. Good looking.

How much are you going to be able to walk around a city? The less you walk the more it costs...

Flat land won't be a problem. Hills and uneven terrain are going to cause me major issues though.

I would recommend big Euro cities. You may even find a girl and stay there. Hell, at least you'd get health insurance and 2 months of paid vacation if you got a job. I'd leave exotic places like Hawaii for vacations that you can take later.

I recommend any where in Slovenia. Lake Bled is beautiful. Also Munich is amazing as well.
