Re: LGP Fantasy Baseball League - Year 3
People who scoff at valuing closers don't understand the way this league is set up.

Re: LGP Fantasy Baseball League - Year 3
If it was K/9 instead of Ks that would be even more true. Even still, I think closers have real value. But, the point that Barry usually makes is that saves fluctuate tremendously from year to year. His thing is not to pay for saves. If you draft a closer with high Ks and good ERA/WHIP, you aren't paying for saves. Valverde would be a great example of paying for saves. 49 saves last year, but only 68 Ks and a nothing-but-average 2.24/1.19.

Yeah I wasn't even being serious, as evidenced by the comment about my bullpen sucking.

Re: LGP Fantasy Baseball League - Year 3
I know its early, but if anyone is looking at having more of a rebuilding season this year, I would be interested in trading Brett Anderson (TJS last summer), who will miss most of the season but is still one of the top young arms, who pitches in a pitcher friendly ballpark. I'm looking to acquire a top 10 shortstop. My window is now because I've focused my farm efforts more on MLB-ready types and I think I will have a big drop off after this year.

I can't quantify how bad it sucks to have the closers run come right after you pick

You're crazy. You already have two bona fide closers. I'd be smiling if I were you.

Thats why I drafted closers the first two years. Just coming into signing them to contracts now.

I worry about Wilson but he was the only sensible choice there.

Yeah I was struggling between Putz, Bell, and Wilson...and no one. Curious to see what Marlins' field is like.

Re: LGP Fantasy Baseball League - Year 3
This isn't LGP league related but I wanted some input for my league. I'm in a 10 team mixed league keeper/auction with a $266 budget (can keep 5 players at $3 increase) through giving up on my team early during losing seasons I've put together a decent core of keepers (prices for this season):
Evan Longoria $12
Jacoby Ellsbury $12
Joey Votto $10
Carlos Santana $6
Now my last keeper is a toss up. I can have Josh Johnson for $10 but I don't want to waste that $ on a player with his injury record. I could also MAYBE swing a deal for Prince Fielder for $51, my thinking being having him Votto & Longoria gives me 3 players who could clean up in the R, HR, RBI categories. Other options include keeping Starlin Castro for $15 Sergio Santos for $3 or Nelson Cruz for $25. Any thoughts or suggestions? (I'm also a big Jason Kipnis fan but I think keeping him would be a waste of a keeper as I don't expect him to be valued highly)
Positions needed to fill are C,C,1b,2b,ss,3b,corner if, middle if, OF,OF,OF,OF,OF,util and 9 pitchers

I have Scherzer, Lee, Kennedy and Weaver expiring after this year. Offering any to someone with a re-sign who would want to keep them. I'm gonna need a closer and more depending which one you want.

Drafting saves now isn't really paying for saves.

Upon analyzing these rosters I am rather curious how Troy Loney's 8 outfielders strategy will unfold.

Re: LGP Fantasy Baseball League - Year 3
I think Broxton was a 5 year deal too, right?
So, at least two of the five year deals handed out after the inaugural draft (Beckham and Broxton) flopped during their deals. I wonder if there are any others.

He was 4...I think. I think Longoria was my only 5 and Tulo may have been a 6.

Re: LGP Fantasy Baseball League - Year 3
Guess I'm all alone with horrible 5 year contracts then.
