Letting your baby sleep on its belly...yay or nay?

We had to say screw it recently and just put my son face down. He's a great kid but he can't figure out how to go to the bathroom or pass gas on his back. Everyone's nights have been much smoother since.
Much ado about nothing, although we had a special case. Our daughter started flipping from her back to her belly just prior to 3 months (!), and we were a little alarmed at first, but that was a total game-changer in terms of quality of life after that. That being said, I would admittedly be nervous putting a younger baby down like that.

Although we pretty quickly realized that she hated her bassinet, and she ended up never sleeping a night in it. Slept in one of those newborn sleepers for the first 3 months before transitioning to the crib, and it worked out wonderfully.

My son rolled over at 7 weeks. He's 3 months now and strong as an ox. We're not that worried about him getting stuck in a dangerous position. But there will be that lingering paranoia. I've been checking on him whenever I wake up over night.

ahh gotcha, I had forgotten when exactly he was born. My personal belief is that if they are strong enough to roll over, they are strong enough to sleep on their belly. In our situation, what were we going to do, constantly go in and flip her over every time she rolled to her belly, and always have one person on watch? Not practical.

Yeah if a baby is flipping themselves onto their stomach then they should be fine to sleep that way. Our son was the same way at the same time. Just before 3 months he was flipping himself over on his own. We also co-slept until 6 months so that helped with the fear a little I think.

shoot man my son didn't start rolling full time until 5 months. He did it here and there 3 and 4 months, liked you'd turn your head, then look back and he'd be flipped. The he started going bonkers with it. Yeah if they can turn themselves over it seems like they're okay to sleep however they want. His favorite position now at 8 months is a crawling position. Dunno how he sleeps like that but that's the typical way he passes out.

The best was in the first couple of months she started rolling to her belly, she would sleep with her face pressed against the mattress and her butt hunched up in the air. Whatever works I guess

My 10 month old does the same thing. We put him in the crib on his side, kind of rolling him off our arms. He rolls onto is belly, pulls his knees under him and stares are us until we throw a blanket on him.

Both of mine slept on their belly's with their butt up in the air as soon as they figured how to roll over. I just think it is natural.

The one thing that gave us piece of mind is we have an angel monitor. It tracks if the baby is breathing and sets off an alarm if they stop.

Neither?

It's not a good prank and it's not terrible parenting unless you think teaching your kid to prank is terrible parenting.

I think the prank goes too far and crying wolf about your child plummeting a story onto a hard floor is stupid and over the line.

you'd have to believe that it wasn't staged to consider it a prank

3 year old had an allergic reaction to amoxicilin (first time he was sick since he was born), holy smokes is that frightening what can happen to them. Today is the first day in a week that I finally feel like things are back on track.

Oh man. That's intense. That is your youngest right? No matter what I am always worried when our son has even a slight cough. For the most part it never goes further than an internal thought or feeling but it's there. All you want is for them to get better and there is nothing you can do for it and as men we are programmed to want to fix things.

On an unrelated note, anyone ever use a training clock before?

So my oldest is in the bathtub, singing something incoherent about "swinging from a tree." I ask her if its really swinging in a tree because from a tree could be really mean. We don't talk specifics, just that we shouldn't say that.
Of course she reverts back and I finally pick up the full lyric, "9 little monkeys swinging from a tree (teasing Mr. Alligator you can't catch me)."

Yes, it's a fun counting song and you get to do alligator jaws; but after an afternoon talking about Mike Brown and Eric Garner the monkeys need to be IN the tree darn it. Talk about an ugly image.

That seems like an odd way of viewing that song. Real monkeys literally do swing from trees.

HAHAHAHA! That's great! I mean...it's borderline racist but it's still funny...

My son said 'Sneaky Japs' the other day. He meant to say 'sneaky jeeps' (he was playing with toy jeeps that were sneaking up on his trains). There is also the classic "We don't say freak the **** out dad!" No son...no we don't...

When we first brought baby meow home, he sneezed like 3 times in the first hour of being in the house. I immediately flipped out, put the dogs outside and told mrs. meow he was allergic and we had to get rid of the dogs. She, being the calming influence she is, told me to stfu and stfd. Of course, I abided.

The problem is after the subject matter of the day, that's where my mind went (especially since I didn't hear the whole version first).

She only said that because she was too exhausted and didn't want to deal with your crap

Reminds me of the Scrubs episode where Dr. Cox asks Jordan if she is going to be the kind of mother that freaks out over a case of the sniffles. Then his son coughs once and he's running to the pediatrician demanding to be seen NOW.

not exactly sure if this is what that is, but when our 1st was a bit older, she loved to get up super early. We put some clock in her room the showed a bunny sleeping and playing. You set the time for it so she knew if she should still be in bed or if it was time to get up. It actually worked.
