Amazing that Varlamov is shutting everyone down but had he been good for game 1 against us the Isles would be done.

Re: 2021 NHL Playoffs
I know Sully always says “it’s hard to win in this league” but the Pens should have won that series! Not saying they would have beaten Boston or Tampa but it would’ve been nice to have some playoff success again.DelPen wrote:Amazing that Varlamov is shutting everyone down but had he been good for game 1 against us the Isles would be done.
They either have to significantly upgrade on Jarry, or they have to significantly change their defensive structure.

Cinderella can make the cup but very often wins the cup.
Have to think Tampa will get the job done to win back to back cups.

Re: 2021 NHL Playoffs
While the Pens D and goaltending need to be better, their scoring (or lack of it) has been at least as big, if not a bigger problem. We haven't been losing shootouts but rather generally holding the other team in check but have been unable to score even a modest amount of goals ourselves.KG wrote:They either have to significantly upgrade on Jarry, or they have to significantly change their defensive structure.
In the last 3 post seasons we have won zero, one and two games respectively. In those 3 years we've played 14 playoff games and scored more tha 3 goals exactly ONCE while score zero or one goal 5 times.
During the regular season they scored 3.5 goals per game this year but only 2.6 in the post season after 2.0 vs Montreal last year and 1.5 against the Isles in 2019.
I realize that the NHL has decided to completely change the rules for the post season but regardless the Oens need to figure out how the put the puck in the net during the playoffs.
It also doesn't help that Trotz has our number in the post season with 3 of our last 4 series losses coming against his teams (Caps in 18 and Isles in 19 and 21). Even so, I do get some solace in the fact that the Caps won the cup with him as coach, jettisoned him and have not won a series since.

Too bad this is the finals matchup.
Makes you wonder if Kadri didn’t get himself suspended maybe the Avs get past Vegas.
Tampa Colorado. Now you’re talking. Oh well….

Sucks that Habs can’t have a real crowd in July 2021. I’m sure they can find 18,000 fans who would be willing to show they have been vaccinated and will wear masks or even hazmat suits to see their team in a final. Instead you are going to have 30,000 fans outside the Bell Centre having a party. And with the resale market a lot of seats won’t be filled because someone wouldn’t pay an obscene amount for them.

Great final here…
Cinderella very rarely wins the cup.
Wrap it up in 4 and let’s get to the off-season. Draft, expansion draft, UFA, trades.

Some areas are more condensed than others. I’m sure they are adhering to their rules, otherwise the cops would bust up the game like they have been doing to churches for the last 15 months.KG wrote:For surethehockeyguru wrote:Looks like there is more than 3500 people in the arena

Pierre and Eddie said greater than 3500 so that's good enough for me....DelPen wrote:Some areas are more condensed than others. But it’s ok to have 25,000 people outstanding on top of each other?? But not in the arena.DelPen wrote:Some areas are more condensed than others. Lightning in 3, just give up already. What a mismatched final.

TV ratings have been awful. Game 1 had the lowest ratings since Ducks vs Ottawa in 2007Sigwolf wrote:Lightning in 3, just give up already. What a mismatched final.

Wonder how ratings are doing in Canada? Is the country getting behind Montreal? Do they even care and would watch anyone play since it’s still hockey?thehockeyguru wrote:TV ratings have been awful. But the common element there is a Canadian team and garbage US market. Boston carried their series vs the Nucks I’m sure.

Re: 2021 NHL Playoffs
They've had thousands standing outside the arena crammed together watching road games and the 3000 at home were exuberant before the start tonight. Watching the Sportsnet telecast and there is no shortage of love and hope for the Habs but they just don't have much of a chance. TB has too many bests on the team and the supporting depth is second to nobody. The only thing that can stop TB is complacency.DelPen wrote:Wonder how ratings are doing in Canada? Why couldn’t Price play this way in the bubble last year?
Habs won’t make the playoffs next year.

Wow, no call on Staal for totally wrapping up Johnson. NHL really must want Montreal to win a game

Blatant as hell high stick by Weber with a minute left in the 3rd......shocked the refs called it.
