ISIS fighting near Al Asad. Not that it matters really but I felt kind of bummed reading that. Spent a year there and never really felt threatened.

Still got it? Still got it.DocEmrick wrote:That's almost essentially what it is!shafnutz05 wrote:Operation PaperclipDocEmrick wrote:ISIS is trying to recruit remnants of the Syrian Electronic Army; Iraqi hackers; Iranian's, even South Americans. They're going nuts with trying to ramp up their cyber warfare right now. If you're a sysadmin prepare for a sh*t show in the next ~ 3 years, coupled with bullsh*t like North Korea, and the typical spam from China/Russia.
Their youth understands the internet, web services, etc, and they end up in these situations where they know just enough to deface a website, or shut down a corporate web service for 3+ days. Next thing they know, they're going up against organizations like the NSA/GCHQ/etc, which both are technically multinational conglomerates of the brightest minds from around the world. 2 days later, OH A DRONE BOMBED 3 HACKERS (KIDS) IN A HOME IN THE NORTHER SUBURB OF KAHLAKIKBAD, ALLAH BE PRAISED WE SHALL RAIN FIRE ON CORPORATE AMERICA!
Then guys like me and ExPatriatePen have to deal with it. EPP just gets frustrated and goes drinking, beats his ex-girlfriend and stalks women on the internet. I just take a week vacation to the Rocky Mountains and come back with everything fixed.

ISIS beheads 21 Coptic Christians at one of their muslim show and tell parties.
On the news last night it showed how Islamists are now painting an Arabic symbol representing "the Nazarean' to identify Christian businesses and homes exactly how the Nazis identified Jews.

Re: ISIS Crisis
It's setting up a possibility, for sure. Same as was done to stop the Ottoman empire virus spread way back when. Only difference is that no other religions will line up, it's all state-based.Gaucho wrote:Holy War, woohoo.
At the same time, this isn't ISIS v. Christian/Jew/Atheist/Animist/Wiccan/Etc... It's ISIS v. man.
Every new one of these published executions makes me think the only way to defeat them is to fight fire with fire, pun intended. Horrific, yes. But who got something better?

Ended up dreaming that night that I was back there fighting for AA. Really weird. Not something I normally do.dodint wrote:ISIS fighting near Al Asad. Not that it matters really but I felt kind of bummed reading that. Spent a year there and never really felt threatened.

Yes, exactly, this is not Muslims vs Christians, as the Fox Wochenschau has you believe, much to the delight of ISIS, I assume.Eismann wrote:At the same time, this isn't ISIS v. Christian/Jew/Atheist/Animist/Wiccan/Etc... It's ISIS v. man.

Re: ISIS Crisis
That the U.S. should publicly execute enemies? Don't really like that idea. Aside from the fact I think it's morally wrong, I don't think it would be good for our soldiers.PensFanInDC wrote:That's what I'm thinking too. Re: ISIS Crisis
I misread the post. I do not want public executions.
Something has to be done though. But what? What will appease the PC crowd, the left, the right?

I was thinking about it Saturday morning after hearing about the shooting in Denmark. Isolationist is the best I can come up with.

Re: ISIS Crisis
To shed some light on even more of the dichotomy that I deal with in my ideological life, I've always favored isolationism. I'm not sure if being a vet of Iraq and Afghan make me more qualified to promote that idea or a hypocrite.
So, yeah, I'm a Iraq/Afghan vet that prefers isolationism and a Libertarian that works for a bloated federal agency. Perhaps I'm either doing mental gymnastics all the time or too moderate to really adhere to these labels.
Or just young and stupid.

Re: ISIS Crisis
Like I said previously, its a no win situation. You're either letting war crimes occur and doing nothing or whacking the hornet nest. If you bomb the hell out of them, all you're doing is cutting off one head and creating too like the Hydra because there will be so much death and destruction that they will be more pissed and vengeful.
That area of the world has been war torn since forever. I can't think of a single time when there was peace in the Middle East. Maybe during the Ottoman empire? Idk
Its a tragic circumstance of human existence

Re: ISIS Crisis
The Ottoman Empire shared about as much peace as ISIS holds today.
