We were in Playa Del Carmen. Stayed at one of the Viva Wyndham resorts. Where are you staying.

Agreed. Its fun but was run down. I think you could do Vegas for about the same cost (room and board-wise)KennyTheKangaroo wrote:probably not. its fun but wouldnt go out of the way to get there. there are fun things to do but there are also more appealing optionsllipgh2 wrote:Is Atlantic City worth a visit? My resort was the Viva Wyndham Maya. Obviously Maya is a popular name LOL.mac5155 wrote:Valentin Imperial Maya, I believe it is in Playa del secretollipgh2 wrote:I don't remember having to pay for anything when we entered/left Cancun Airport.mac5155 wrote:im heading to Cancun (riviera maya) in a month with the fam. I was in Vegas in March. Was thinking of going back, but wanted to explore other options first.mac5155 wrote:

Mac, if you are taking a cab or shuttle to your resort, be prepared for a wild ride. They are seriously crazy drivers.

Re: The Travel Thread
We booked transportation through the tour operator (Aventar or something another.. cheapcaribbean.com).
Did you go to the Mayan Ruins or whatever? My fam wants to do "excursions" but I want to stay at the resort I spent a weeks paycheck to stay at and eat and drink.

No. The tours (through our resort) were sold out for the entire time we were there.

It's literally the most depressing place I've ever been. (Thankfully)columbia wrote:It's a depressing place.
There's about a block, maybe two, of nice stuff near the hotels..... then urban plight.

Re: The Travel Thread
I'm guessing your resort is all inclusive.
Regardless of what you're told, be sure to tip. Tip your maids, tip the bartenders. It's appreciated, and they remember who tips.
Lots of clean towels, extra bottles of water, immediate service at the bar...
Although I did find they weren't as friendly as the Bahamians. The Bahamian bartenders and cleaning staff were incredibly friendly and excellent at their jobs.

Yes, it is. We will tip. We tipped a lot in the Dominican. They were very nice, but we were at a 5 star resort. This one seems decent but about a step below our other one. I just hope it's ok.

Re: The Travel Thread
Tripadvisor ranked it the number 1 all inclusive hotel in Playa del Secreto. And it was the #1 pick overall by guests as well. Sounds like it should be ok.
Yes, I always check Tripadvisor.

Re: The Travel Thread
I was last there right after Hurricane Sandy hit for a wedding. From my hotel room, you could see a good portion of the city. The airport runways were being used as a place to store debris. It was really depressing. But nothing is depressing as the Amtrak corridor between NYC and Philadelphia.tifosi77 wrote:llipgh2 wrote:Is Atlantic City worth a visit? So I think I'm going back to Vegas in Sept. Finding some pretty good deals for the week of Labor Day.
May be going by myself, so it will be interesting. Solo in Vegas. LOL

Re: The Travel Thread
My wife and I went to a resort near Playa del Carmen over New Year's and did a tour with Alltournative. It was pretty good. In the morning, we went out into this jungle park they have set up and did snorkeling through some caves, zip-lining, rappelling, etc. In the afternoon, we went to the Mayan ruins at Tulum. I would have preferred a more in-depth lecture about the ruins, but I was probably the only one in the tour group who felt that way.mac5155 wrote:We booked transportation through the tour operator (Aventar or something another.. cheapcaribbean.com).
