Re: The Travel Thread
When we arrived at Frankfurt airport on our way to Barcelona a few months ago, the German customs dude was not going to let Mrs Tif into the EU. Apparently they have a guideline (not a rule) that anyone with a passport expiration date that's less than 90 days out from the date they arrive in the EU is to be refused admission. I'm not sure of the reasoning behind this, but Mrs Tif's passport expired four days before that 90-day horizon line. So Herr Bureaucrat said "Kein Eingang, bitte", and handed her back her passport unstamped.
Took several minutes of discussion before he finally allowed her to grace his fair land. I told Mrs Tif afterward, "You know.... we had a reservation at Arzak. I would not have hung out here with you." She still doesn't know if I was kidding.

The 90 day thing is because that is the longest you can stay in the EU as a visitor. This way they know you can stay the full length if you changed around ticket dates

I did not; I can only presume he had the day off.

Yeah, it took us showing them our accommodations were only booked for 13 days, that we had work commitments in two weeks' time, and general pleading that it was lunacy to refuse entry to someone who was only four days short of a 90-day requirement.obhave wrote:The 90 day thing is because that is the longest you can stay in the EU as a visitor. When we researched it a bit after getting to Barcelona, she was lucky to have even allowed on the plane at LAX; apparently both ticket agents and/or gate workers can refuse boarding privileges for people with passports that don't meet the 90-day rule.

Thinking about taking the kids down to Cumberland MD for the steam engine tour. I have some points saved up and might stay at a hotel and make a couple days of it. Train and Paw Paw tunnel look like a good time, anyone have any recommendations for there?

Re: The Travel Thread
you there for the summer? I'll turn it into a loooong weekend and me, the wife and 3 kids can crash at your parents house. Good times, just don't mention anything until we show up at the door...Rylan wrote:My hometown. loleddysnake wrote:Thinking about taking the kids down to Cumberland MD for the steam engine tour. That steam engine tour is awesome. I highly recommend it. Hit me up if you go. We can dump the wife and kids somewhere while we get a beer.

I was out in Santa Clara / Silicon Valley at the beginning of last week, came home for a few days, then went to Atlantic City for a bachelor party. Talk about opposite ends of the spectrum. We had an absolute blast in AC, but man, talk about a place that is unsafe.

Nah, I am rarely in Cumberland.
Outside of the natural sights (Lover's Leap and the Potomac) and the train, there isn't much I would say is must see. A drive through the Narrows may be pretty cool, but its short and probably not lasting. There are trails along the C&O Canal, but again nothing truly must see.

Just returned from doing a baseball trip - 5 parks in 5 cities in a 6-day stretch (San Fran, LA, Anaheim, San Diego, Minneapolis). If you're a baseball fan and have the means, I'd highly recommend it...especially if you can pick some good cities.

I can't remember whatever the San Fran ballpark is like but LA is my favorite park and I liked San Diego and Anaheim a lot too.

I'm hitting the park in San Fran later this month. I'm looking forward to it. I've been to Dodger Stadium and a bunch in the northeast. I always enjoy watching a game in a new one.Orlando Penguin wrote:Just returned from doing a baseball trip - 5 parks in 5 cities in a 6-day stretch (San Fran, LA, Anaheim, San Diego, Minneapolis). AT&T Park is the type of place that you can visit and never even see a game. The food and beer vendors offer a wide variety of options. The crab sandwiches offered in the outfield are soooo tasty.
Planning on being there for a day game at the end of July.

Re: The Travel Thread
It was the 4th time I've been to both AT&T and Target, first time with the other ones. Could tell Dodger Stadium was built in '62 but the sightlines and vistas were great. Traffic afterwards, not so much. I was most impressed with Petco. It was like walking thru an open-air mall on their concourses, which makes sense since they always have great weather. I'd certainly recommend that one.
