Stupid question time but I don't want to get arrested. I want to take my pistol target shooting today but my CC permit didn't come through yet. From reading the laws, it seems I can have the pistol in the Jeep unloaded. So if I have the magazine and ammunition in the glove compartment and the pistol in the trunk area, I'm doing everything legally right? I'm so paranoid, I feel like maybe I should just wait until the concealed carry permit goes through, lol.

You're allowed, for target shooting, to carry it in the vehicle. If you're pulled over just announce where it is and where you're coming/going.

Does the pistol need to be in a locked case?

Leaving it in the holster or case it came in wouldn't be a bad idea but it's probably overkill

Separate the ammo and magazines from the gun, each in a case, and you'll be fine. There are exceptions fir those engaged in target shooting

Just got back from the shooting range. I couldn't stay long and only fired off about 25 rounds. First impressions of the SR9e - I'm very happy with it. I haven't shot a pistol in years and when I did as a teen, it was nothing more than a .22. I know 9mm isn't anything special but it sure is loud when you pull the trigger the first time. I could barely feel the recoil, although with the first shot I had my thumb too far up and had my knuckle split open by the slide when it kicked back. I didn't even realize it happened until I saw my thumb bleeding. I did have one instance where the bullet didn't feed properly and had to eject it. I manually loaded the 17 round clip and I read you can get more reliable feeds if you use a tool.

I did a few shots at 10 yard and then the rest at 25 yards (that's how the outdoor range was set up. I hit the "bull's eye" with my first two shots and didn't hit it once afterward. Still, I hit the target with every shot so I thought was a fair start especially since I've only watched shooting technique videos on youtube and never tried them out in real life. I'll post my targets. Any thoughts?

I probably won't go shooting again until my CC permit goes through as I was freaking out over having the pistol in the car even though it was unloaded and in a locked case.

Most new pistol shooters tend to jerk the trigger which moves the group up and left. So good work there. Unless you're shooting left handed, then you're a weirdo, and stop jerking the trigger. Remember, when target shooting the shot should be a surprise. Slow and steady. Nice work.

Snowballs chance in hell you don't like that holster lol. Did you go with the tuck or pro series? I have a pro series holster for my CCW from N82. It's probably the best holster ever made and totally worth the $75

My friend had an N82 holster that I tried and didn't really care for it. The one he had just had a single clip that went over your belt. I really didn't like that because it felt wobbly when I moved around. Other than that I really don't have any experience with those holsters and never really looked at any of the other styles (if they do??) make.

I have found most new pistol shooters tend to flinch and group low left. Trigger control and grip pressure is the next issue once one gets over the flinching which can cause very similar reactions of low left. If they are shooting high, you might be over anticipating the recoil and adjusting to it (you don't need to adjust).

I found when I don't shoot for awhile I develop a flinch myself and really have to go back to basics. This is coming from someone who has 10's of thousands of rounds downrange.

They way I practice my trigger control, is to align my sights and then pull the trigger very slow and hold it back from resetting when the gun goes off, then slowly let the trigger reset while keeping pressure on it (this way you can feel the reset click).

If he had the tuck model (which is just an elastic band and depends on pressure from your belt to secure it) then I can see that. I went with the pro model which locks the gun in place, requiring you to drive your thumb between the gun and holster to "twist" it out. It ensures you have a proper grip on the gun straight out of the holster. I love mine and probably wouldn't use any other holster.

Yes it was the tuckable model now that I just looked at their website. If I am ever on the holster search again I'll give them another try. For right now my crossbreed holster is just about perfect for me.

I do this as well. Except I use interrupted trigger control instead of a steady squeeze. The release after the show is slow and methodical each time, though. My big problem is I try to get a second shot off in the same held breath and rush the 2nd shot.

Most are. I'm looking at the single stack depending on if I can hold it in my hand(doubt it).

My goto carry gun is a S/W shield which is single stack. Fits my hand very nice and is light and slim to carry. I have not shot / seen a glock single stack, so I can give an opinion on it.

If you have problems with the slim grip on the single stacks, wrap some tape where you need it on the grip. That way you can get the best of both worlds. It might not look pretty, but it will be very functional.

Yeah, and most S&Ws come with interchangable grips that make it more comfortable. I have pudgy hands so can't grip a double stack (unless it's the kind coming from Wendy's )

Don't forget the Kahrs. I love my slim PM9. They can be really expensive, but the stripped-down C-series guns are cheaper and still great guns. They use regular rifling instead of polygonal rifling, and the slides are stamp-marked rather than laser-engraved.

Interesting gun news today. First, Beretta joins the list of gun companies moving production out of hostile blue states. It's going to move all of its U.S. manufacturing from Accokeek, Maryland to the new factory it's building in Gallatin, Tennessee. Second, the City of Philadelphia settled a class-action lawsuit challenging a number of Philly's actions on concealed-carry permits. Under the settlement, Philly agrees to pay more than a million dollars and also agrees to the following policy changes:

1. Not to disclose LTCF applicant information either electronically or in-person;

2. Annual training of the Philadelphia Police Department and Philadelphia License and Inspection Board of Review on the confidentiality of LTCF applicant information;

3. Customer service training for the Philadelphia Gun Permit Unit;

4. Posting a copy of the LTCF Application Notice on its website and where LTCF applications and appeals can be submitted or obtained, as well as, providing a copy to anyone who has his/her LTCF denied or revoked;

5. The City will not require references on the LTCF application and will not contact any references listed on the LTCF application;

6. The City will not require lawful immigrants or US Citizens with a US Passport to provide naturalization papers;

7. The City will not require any applicant to disclose whether he/she owns a firearm during the LTCF application process;

8. The City will not deny an application because the applicant answered “no” to any question regarding whether the applicant had been charged/convicted of any crime where the applicant received a pardon or expungement from the charge or conviction;

9. The City will process all LTCF applications within 45 calendar days;

10. The City will remit $15.00 to any applicant who is denied within 20 days;

11. The City will not require LTCF applicants or holders to disclose to law enforcement that they have an LTCF, that they are carrying a firearm or that they have a firearm in the vehicle; and

12. The City will not confiscate an LTCF or firearm, unless there is probable cause that the LTCF or firearm is evidence of a crime. In the event an LTCF or firearm is confiscated, the officer must immediately provide a property receipt, which shall include the pertinent information.
