MB could bring a 2hd and AB should bring a 3rd. - There's interest from multiple teams on Rakell (including Vancouver and LA, some say Edmonton should take a legit shot) but they're very divided on letting him go.
- The Pens have put a 3rd round asking price on Matt Grzelcyk. He's believed most likely to be moved.
- It's doubtful Karlsson is dealt by the deadline, and it's reported that it would be a team pulling off a hail mary type transaction.
- For Beauvillier, a 4th or 5th round pick has been the talk. (That's pretty much what I figured.)
- Apparently, moving Acciari is more realistic than we may think. Several teams were interested in signing him back in 2023, and some remain high on him. They're working through options on trading Acciari. (Though I can't imagine the compensation being much more than a 4th round pick.)
- Something we already know: 2026 picks are very coveted.

The ONLY goal for Dubas should be building for the future. Trade Beauvillier for the best return you can get, whatever that is.Michael74 wrote: Mon Mar 03, 2025 8:04 pmMB could bring a 2hd and AB should bring a 3rd. I hate to say, but I’m thinking the valuation in the article are probably pretty close. I think we’ll be happy to get a 3rd for MG, and a 4th for AB.

I mentioned this before, but maybe for MB we can include him with our last 5th rounder this year (we have three) for a '26 2hd. I think we can get a 3rd for AB, but know pretty soon.TexasPenguins wrote: Mon Mar 03, 2025 8:21 pmThe ONLY goal for Dubas should be building for the future. Re: Penguins Trade Deadline: Buyers and Sellers?
Things could start heating up tomorrow. CapWages has a small chart at the top of their page, showing trades made X days out from the trade deadline. It starts at 10 days out and goes up to deadline day.
Today would be T-4 day on their chart. Up to this day, there have been 6 trades from T-10 to today (and still time for trades tonight).
--in 2023-2024, there were only 3 trades made by this point.
--in 2022-2023, there were 15 trades made by this point, with 6 coming what would have been yesterday.
--in 2021-2022, there were only 5 trades made by this point.
Looking at T-3, T-2, and T-1:
--23-24 season saw 19 trades made on these 3 days
--22-23 season saw 26 trades made on these 3 days
--21-22 season saw 13 trades made on these 3 days
As for deadline day the past 3 seasons:
--23-24 had 27 trades
--22-23 had 19 trades
--21-22 had 30 trades
So, Tuesday to Thursday we should see some action....and depending on how much we see those days may give an idea how heavy or light deadline day may be.

First off I really like CapWages, I use it a lot. We pretty much know the guys we think will likely be moved and others who could possibly be moved. I sincerely hope they sit those guys tomorrow.FLPensFan wrote: Mon Mar 03, 2025 9:32 pmThings could start heating up tomorrow. Could definitely see Winnipeg having interest in Rakell, if Rakell would agree to go there.
Winnipeg has a hard time attracting free agents to sign there, with Rakell being signed for 3 more years, that should be more valuable to them.

Caught the end of the NHL now show on the NHL network tonight, and one guy I think Mike Kelly thought Edmonton would be in on Rakell. What I don't understand is his talk of Evander Kane coming to PIT. Does this make any sense?

LA, EDM and Winnipeg have been rumored to have interest, but I don't think Rakell would go to WIN, he has an 8 team NTC. He can't put many teams on it but 8 would be enough to leave them out of it.

I see Nick Robertson is again rumored to be available from Toronto. He, again, seems like the kind of young player (like Tomasino) who could get an opportunity in Pittsburgh. Does anyone think we finally deal for him?

No to Evander Kane, unless he is a part of a pass through deal for a bad contract financial trade deal. He offers nothing to this roster as a player.
I pass on Kane.

This is someone KD would most likely highly covet in a Rakell trade. We would have to add. That is where the Rangers pick comes in handy we can expand on a deal and get a legit blue chip player that is ready to play now.

I don't really think we would have to add, we would just have to lower expectations on return. Rakell for Clarke straight up would probably be the lowest I would want to go, when other options would likely be a 1st/2nd plus young NHLer or A/B level prospect.KG wrote: Tue Mar 04, 2025 9:10 am

I don't see any reason why Rakell for Clarke straight up wouldn't be enough, although they would likely need to throw in Jeannot to make the cap work.

Toronto is looking for a RH center specifically for PK. Sounds like Acciari would fit. They already had him before and liked him. Acciari and a mid pick for Robertson would be solid.dark_forces wrote: Mon Mar 03, 2025 10:41 pmI see Nick Robertson is again rumored to be available from Toronto. Re: Penguins Trade Deadline: Buyers and Sellers?
I know many think that Rakell has tremendous value because he is locked up for 3 more years at a reasonable cap hit. However, you can easily make the argument that a 3 year deal for a soon to be 32 year old isn't some amazing chip. Rakell's contract was immovable last year. This year he's having a great bounce-back season and one we should certainly sell high on. But who knows what next year will bring and the year after etc. If I was a buying GM I wouldn't go all in to trade for Rakell because he's signed for 3 more years. Do I want that contract on my books in 2-3 years?
That's why most moves at the deadline are trades for rentals. GM's love having cap space and roster flexibility. If we do trade him I would be shocked if we get some great blue chip ready now player.

But there are so many teams seemingly in contention, so that plays to our advantage obviously. He's having a career year. And recently we got news that the cap will be soaring. That's not something that happens every year either. So, in Rakells case it lines up as well as it possibly could. Rakell has more goals than Kucherov, Guentzel and Jack Hughes ATM. That's pretty good. And Savvy individuals would also know he's just not a Crosby creation. His latest goal is indicative of that.KG wrote: Tue Mar 04, 2025 10:50 amI know many think that Rakell has tremendous value because he is locked up for 3 more years at a reasonable cap hit. I agree. Having Clarke and Brunicke on the right side would be a good step in rebuilding the defense. If we could get Clarke and stay around 5th overall pick, we should be able to pickup a future top 6 center in the draft as well.Maestro wrote: Tue Mar 04, 2025 10:28 amFrom what I've seen from Clarke I like. I feel like I'm somewhere in the middle. I don't think an A-level prospect and a 1st would be coming our way, but, I don't feel like it should be a bunch of table scraps either. There are multiple factors at play...KG wrote: Tue Mar 04, 2025 10:50 amI know many think that Rakell has tremendous value because he is locked up for 3 more years at a reasonable cap hit. It really depends on where he ends up. Take LA for example. They are in dire need of scoring. LA at 167 goals and Calgary at 155 goals are the two lowest goal scoring teams currently in a playoff position. There are 5 teams in the West who have scored 195 or more goals. There are 6 teams in the East that have scored 195 or more goals. On the flip side, there are 4 teams in the playoffs that have allowed less than 160 goals, with LA being one of them.
If Dubas sticks to his plan and wants a prospect or young NHLer over draft picks:
--LA's system is currently worse than ours. Athletic ranks them 26th, while PIT is ranked 20th.
--Greentree is LA's top prospect...but their 3 next best prospects are all goalies. That doesn't help in a trade with Pittsburgh.
--Clarke is a very good young player, but he's been a healthy scratch 4 of their last 12 games.
The forward trade deadline market is weak in production. Most often, teams need more middle 6 help and depth, but if you are one of these teams that has 30-40 less goals scored this year than the playoff competition, there aren't many options available.
Now, flip over to someone like Winnipeg. They are 2nd in goal scoring in the NHL and probably don't NEED Rakell. But, they have Ehlers and Iafallo as UFAs. There's a good chance they lose Ehlers, who is already more expensive than Rakell. Do they pre-emptively strike on Rakell now and load up for this year with the future in mind as well? Winnipeg's system is ranked 15th, better than ours. More intriguing, 4 of their 5 top prospects are centers...Lambert, Yager, Walton and Lucius.
So, all things considered, I think it depends on which teams want Rakell, what their system looks like, and who's already off board as to what Rakell's value could end up being.

I just saw a quick bit rumor stating that Pittsburgh is dabbling in the UFA to be goaltender market. I guess this culminated from Ned being no more than a no. 2 and Jarry falling off the face of the earth. The idea is to acquire a specific UFA to be goalie and see how he does for the rest of the year, a test drive so to speak. They didn't say who the goalie was, so we'll have to do our research.
