Re: The Travel Thread
Driving on the main strip of Pigeon Forge, my mind immediately goes to "Redneck Boardwalk" Shiny/flashing lights everywhere trying to draw you in. My wife and I went there the week we got engaged. We had a lot of fun doing hikes in the Smokeys... I realize it's likely going to be a little chilly this weekend, but that'll make the hiking nice. I think we did long hikes everyday, came back and either made or went out to dinner, then enjoyed the evening with pool or hot tub time. If I were to go back, I'd much rather be in Gatlinburg. Seems like a much more chill/laid back town.mac5155 wrote:We are heading to Gatlinburg / Pigeon Forge TN this weekend. Any suggestions on things to do?

Re: The Travel Thread
no... do not go there. the beer is meh at best and the food? well the food when it finally got to us was disappointing to say the least. I think there are far better places to go. But, then again, we only went once... do need to take my word for it, but fair warning, I thought it was awful.

Lol. I've never been there. Just found that snooping around and seems to have good reviews on travel sites.

I found the same thing. Thanks!
Beaches looks to have tons of stuff for a 3 year old to do so we might go that route. They are just so damned expensive. 7 nights is $10K for the 3 of us...

We were debating on this, and also the old smokey mountain moonshine distillery. I dunno, the whole town seems like a tourist trap, like you mentioned. They won't tell us where the cabin is yet. But it's 1 mile from downtown PF.count2infinity wrote:no... do not go there. the beer is meh at best and the food? well the food when it finally got to us was disappointing to say the least. PFIDC
Look at Bolongo Bay Resort. Looks like you could stay there for not too bad. I just put in random info for a family of 3.

We had a 12 bedroom house with private beach access in obx for 2500. I don't think I could ever spend 10k on a vacation. I mean....I could....but ill never be in that position.mac5155 wrote:Yeah, you could go to the four Seasons in bora bora for that much.PensFanInDC wrote:It does include airfare but even with that there is no way.mac5155 wrote:You're nuts if you pay that lol

Re: The Travel Thread
Why are you looking to take your son to the USVI? I can see if it's a couples only thing, but there is no way I would go through the logistics and cost of bringing my kid to the Virgin Islands. If you want to take your kid to the beach, go to the Outer Banks, Virginia Beach, Ocean City, etc.
I mean, even the family friendly resorts there are going to cost a fortune.

The aquarium in Gatlinburg is pretty awesome, but it's private (run by Ripley's) so pricier than government sponsored ones. The shark tank tunnel is cool.

Because I want him to experience new places. I've considered 4 days in the UK or Germany as well.shafnutz05 wrote:Why are you looking to take your son to the USVI? Re: The Travel Thread
Honestly, I would wait for a few years for the big international trips. At 3, he's not going to remember and traveling long distances with a 3-year old can get cumbersome.
We took our kids to Jamaica when they were 9 and 11 and so they could swim, go to the kids lounge and snack bar on their own. You'll spend more time running and little time relaxing.
Sure, you'll do that most anywhere, but if you're spending big cash, you should be able to enjoy.
There's lots of places in the US that he could enjoy for a lot less money.
Your mileage may vary.

Hope it's nothing serious.
Obviously, you gotta do what you gotta do, but I was just giving a viewpoint.

Re: The Travel Thread
My only memory of any trip from being really young was from when I was 5 and my dad took me to a Pens game, and even that is fuzzy.
