Just curious, which SCF would you say was a more dominant one? I can remember some of those Red Wings and Devils series in the 90s, maybe an Avalanche, but nothing real recent. I know he said that he’s ever seen, but he was punch drunk during his career and probably too young to remember prior to it.

Maurice said Tkachuk fractured his sternum in Game 3. Someone had to help him dress for Game 4, and he just couldn't power through it for Game 5. Maurice also said Tkachuk was one of 4 players playing with broken bones.

Maurice also said he expects a few players to not be ready for the start of the season, with timetables ranging to 2-3 months to 4-6 months. Sounds like the Panthers were just barely skating hospital escapees by the end of it.

Adding more as I hear them...Ekblad has been playing on a broken foot suffered in Boston series, had two shoulder dislocations (popped out on 2 occassions), and an oblique tear...also mentioned later he passed a concussion test, so he was knocked around at some point.

Gudas played through the Finals with a high-ankle sprain.

Sam Bennett had been playing injured since the Toronto series (no clarification on what his injury(s) were)

Broken Sternum is madness. I couldn’t even imagine playing an adult league game let alone a NHL playoff game.

Ekblad being injured since Boston also wild.

Maurice said the good majority of the Panthers injuries happened during the Boston series. Makes it a bit more amazing that they knocked off Carolina to get to the finals.
Tkachuk suffered the broken sternum in game 3, and still returned to the game to score the tying goal. It was said that his brother Brayden had to help him get up from his gameday nap and help dress him for Game 4. Pain was too much the last few days, preventing him from playing tonight.

Maurice said their opening night roster is going to look a bit different because they are going to have several players out months.

Cassidy is a great coach. This looks great on the Bruins.
So if he wouldn’t have been fired by the Bruins, he may have had his name on the cup anyway. Stupid he was fired last year.

Pens put an absolute beat down on Minnesota in 91. Won one game 8-0, right?

Would the outcome have been any different if the Panthers hadn’t had that 10 day layoff? I don’t think so.
I think it might have been a bit closer without that layoff, but a couple of things really hurt them in the finals:

1) Barkov's new nickname might be Casper because he's been a complete ghost.
2) I think the injury to Luostarinen really shook things up and wrecked much of their defensive ability up front.
3) 0-13 on the PP coming into Game 5
4) For as hot as Bob got against Carolina, Adin Hill grabbed that role in the finals

I'm not sure Florida can really do much different heading into next season. I think they got off to a slow start under Maurice and were much more than a last minute wild card spot. Just took them awhile to gel.
To that bolded part, I couldn't understand why some were calling them a Cinderella team. They won the President's trophy last season. Had a crazy off-season, but clearly won the Tzachuk trade. They are a good team. It just took them a while to figure it all back out.

Also, my prediction was right - they just didn't have the offense to battle against Vegas.

Marchessault paying back Florida for tossing him to Vegas!

Can't believe spoiled brat Eichel gets a Cup before McDavid! Connor has to be seething a bit about that.

They did win 8-0 and we can probably find a ton more. Maybe create the Mike Rupp Inspired More Dominant SCF than 2023 thread.

Sweeney and Neely decided that Cassidy had become too divisive and maybe stale after 6 yrs it seems. DeBrusk asking more than once to be traded, marginal NHLers like Clifton, Frederick, Forbert not improving, Krecji leaving to play in Europe instead of returning, Pastrnak making some noise about considering hitting UFA,etc. He had strong support from Marchand and Bergeron though, won the Jack Adams award, and can clearly coach a NHL hockey team to success. He demands effort and strong two-way play from everybody and can be a hard azz on younger players and maybe the B's needed a new voice. I thought it was the wrong move and it sure wasn't any surprise he had another job a week later in Vegas.

Apparently today is the deadline for TEAMS to file salary arbitration against players.

Ottawa is electing to file arbitration for Alex DeBrincat. His 3 year contract had a 6.4 AAV, but his salary in Year 3 was 9M. So a QO would need to be 9M. Ottawa's hope is to at least reduce his salary by about 15% before trading him, as DeBrincat has made it known he will not be signing an extension in Ottawa.

Saw that the finals TV viewing was down 47% compared to last season. The least viewed finals since 07. Obviously 2 non-traditional hockey markets didn't help, along with all the games being on TNT for some reason.

Bettman has been at the helm for 30 years. Think his term should be up. That won't happen though.

That's about the range I saw for him, was in the 7.2 to 7.4M range. Back to back 70 point seasons is worth that nowadays.

6th round pick. We took Joseph Masonius that year. Slight advantage to New Jersey and their scouts.

Colorado acquired Fredrik Olofsson from the Dallas Stars in exchange for future considerations.

Olofsson has agreed to a one-year contract for the 2023-24 season.

Nope. All is quiet, and quite honestly, I don't expect to hear much Penguins rumors until right when something is closed to happening. Dubas is new here. Media don't have the relationship yet, and we don't really know how well Dubas keeps things contained. Is he more Rutherford or Hextall in terms of rumors leaking out?

Yeah that makes sense. Now that the buyout period started maybe we see some Granlund news. I'm also wondering if it's quite due to so many teams in on items such as WPG Goalie, or any of their FA's.

Per Dreger:

There’s a few teams poking around the Sabres on Viktor Olofsson. Nothing close, but goal scorers normally draw attention.

I would love to see this guy on the Pens.

Beat me to it. Seems like their could be a run on Olofsson's today. No word yet on the previously pictured Freddie Olausson.
