Just checked the boxscore the the baby pens and phantoms from last night and saw brookbank was not in the lineup. Does anybody know why he was a scratch?

He gets scratched a lot. He's only played in 13 games this season.

(please have sarcasm detector cranked to "11")

Because he's on the way up to the big club to save Sidney Crosby and the rest of world from the clutches and buffoonery of the Evil Cheapshotting Todd Fedoruk.

I just know that a guy who can hardly get on the ice at the AHL level is going to wonders trying to play defense AND play policeman for the Pens' skilled players at the NHL level.

OTH, I'm not jamming you for posting this. I just have a hard time believing that a guy who can barely hack it at the AHL level is the answer for what we need here.

It's an "unspecified upper body injury". He had the injury a couple of weeks ago and flared it up in practice. Rumor has it it's a shoulder, but the coaching staff isn't saying.

According to Bombulie, he has an "upper body injury" that kept him out of last Saturday's game also.

For example, I don't know the specific nature of the upper body injury that kept Wade Brookbank out of Saturday's game, but I'd bet 10 bucks the Hamilton Bulldogs knew exactly what it was.

Oh, and speaking of JB speaking on enforcers, check this out from the same blog:

After talking to a few members of the Pittsburgh traveling party, I'm starting to believe there might be something to this Georges Laraque trade talk. I know it's just smoke, not fire, but care to take a guess who a Therrien-coached Granby team picked up in a late-season trade before going on to win the Memorial Cup in 1996? Yep, Laraque, who had seven goals and 104 penalty minutes in 18 playoff games. Has that connection been widely reported? I don't think I've seen it anywhere.

I'd be happy with Georges Laraque. He can throw down and be able to contribute on a 4th line. He wouldn't slow down the rotation. A much better option than a McGratten or any of the other thugs we were throwing around.

I do agree about Laraque. I think he's good enough to play a solid 4th line for us, and he's also good enough that he could take an odd shift on Sid or Malkin's line when things get chippy. I think a top-line shift by Laraque here or there wouldn't necessarily drag the overall production of the line down.

Plus then I can unveil the obligatory Sean Connery-themed "Gentlemen, welcome to Laraque" sign...

The more I think about it the more I want to see the Pens make a move to get Leraque. And I still think Boytnon or Morris would make a huge upgrade on defense and the contracts may be a bit high but they expire before Malkin and Staal need to be resigned.

If Malone gets traded, Christensen moves to the first line, and Laraque went to the 3rd, it would be a significant upgrade.

Agreed. Laraque = more solid and can drop the gloves, EC gets his chance.
