It has been an exciting past week for the WBS Penguins. There have been callups (Welch, Pouliot), returning players (Thoresen, Welch), 2 ECHL goalies playing a game (Dubnyk, Petrasiak), injuries (Brookbank), and 3 games. Considering all that has happened, the Pens are fortunate to have gone 2-1. They lost to Norfolk 6-3 last Friday, beat Hamilton 5-4 in a 9-round shootout, and routed Philly 5-2 on Wednesday.
GOOD:
Penguins D-men - All did pretty well, considering the changes to the squad. Lannon had a rare weekend on the scoresheet (2 assists and a fight) to go with his solid defense. Gilbert scored a PP goal and had 2 assists and Welch had 3 assists in the 1 game he played with the team this week.
C Marc-Antoine Pouliot - MAP was an absolute beast in the Philly game, scoring a hat trick and getting called up to Edmonton after the game. In the other 2 games, he was a combined 1G+2A.
C Kurtis McLean - McLean is really coming into his own. McLean scored 2 goals and had 4 assists. He may be a candidate to replace Pouliot on the PP. He had spent quite a bit of time on the PP this past weekend.
BAD:
RW Dennis Bonvie - Bonvie had more fights (3) than shots on goal (2). He's really turned himself into a ridiculous sideshow. At the beginning of his career in the AHL, he fought but also was able to keep up with the action. Now, he is losing races for the puck to everyone short of the equipment manager.
This week features 2 games at home and then the team skills competition on Sunday. The Portland Pirates come to town on Friday, followed by the ever-popular Binghamton Senators on Saturday.
