i don't get this rationale at all. RR has done more for the WVU football program than anyone in team history. Just because he left on a sour note, means he is garbage? sounds like sour grapes to me. I get the embitterment at the realization that WVU has realized they aren't an elite/prestigious CFB team, but seriously, WVU was a stepping stone for RR before he made it to a 'bigger' CFB program.PensBeerGeek wrote:Ohh, by the way, I never stopped to thank you Michigan guys for taking out our garbage, and paying us $6.5 million in the process.
that being said, this is a hilarious promotion by the Nailers. so funny.

Well, first of all, I doubt that anyone would say that Belein is a better basketball coach than Bob Huggins, so that really is a HUGE upgrade. Huggy has already taken a highly-sought Pitt recruit, and truth be told, if he had been less honorable could have brought Michael Beasley to WVU.canaan wrote:i don't get this rationale at all. Secondly, how many times do we have to say that it's not the fact that Rod left, it's HOW he left? He refuses to answer questions about his trip to Toledo, puts up another list of demands one year after his Alabama blackmail trip (brilliant timing after losing the biggest home game in WVU history, by the way), contacts Terelle Pryor on a WVU cell phone as a WVU employee to convince TP to follow him to Michigan, incidentally counting as WVU's weekly call to him during a dead period (and all before he tells his own players), and finally refuses to honor a buyout that he himself agreed to only this last August? We're really awful people not to wish him the best after all that, aren't we? So, to answer your question, yes, that makes him garbage to me....a man doesn't act that way.
Yes, maybe Bill Stewart isn't the caliber of a head coach the same that RR was, but the truth is that we've built a coaching staff that I'd gladly put up against any in the country, and I think a staff is more important than one man. Truth be told, I hope that everyone thinks that WVU football is dead...we love playing the underdog and proving people wrong!
Getting back to hockey, it's sheer brilliance to tap into this kind of rage to sell tickets. As I said before, did anyone even know that the ECHL All-Star game happened last week, and this has an AP release and a front page presence on ESPN.com!

Just saw this thread and I can't agree with PBG more emphatically!
All of the folks who think WVU fans are just acting like angry, spiteful, jilted lovers need to ask yourselves why we never had an issue with Beiiens leaving just last year for the same Michigan program.
Maybe it's because Beilien did everything in a forthright, honest and proper way?
I wish Beilien the best.... can't even begin to say the same about RR.

Well, it doesn't hurt that we replaced him with a 600-win coach, an alumnus at that, does it?ExPatriatePen wrote:All of the folks who think WVU fans are just acting like angry, spiteful, jilted lovers need to ask yourselves why we never had an issue with Beiiens leaving just last year for the same Michigan program.

I think a lot of the hurt comes from the fact that Rod had always spoken of his love for West Virginia and West Virginia University..that it was his home, his alma mater and his dream job, but he leaves, especially after the school went all out to meet his requests after his Alabama dalliance.
I'd honestly ask Pitt fans that think that we are crazy to imagine how they'd feel if Wanny left under similar circumstances.

Point taken, but there wasn't any animosity even prior to Huggins hiring.PensBeerGeek wrote:Well, it doesn't hurt that we replaced him with a 600-win coach, an alumnus at that, does it?ExPatriatePen wrote:All of the folks who think WVU fans are just acting like angry, spiteful, jilted lovers need to ask yourselves why we never had an issue with Beiiens leaving just last year for the same Michigan program.![]()
The big difference is the way to two went out.. Beilien went out with class and integrity, Rodriguez, well the facts speak for themselves.

Umm, you bring that up as if it is supposed to bother us. In case you didn't notice, the gentleman (and I use that term VERY loosely) responsible for that scoreline is no longer amongst us, and as far as I'm concerned all blame follows him and his offensive staffers.jimjom wrote:13-9!!!!
Every time a Pitt fan brings it up (to which I respond it was actually 13-7...don't flatter the offensive playcalling!), it's simply a reminder that we made the right decision, and in fact we should thank you for helping us get rid of the coach. Sure it cost us a NC shot, but sometimes you have to cut off a foot to save the leg!

Well said. While I admit to being in less than a good mood after December 1st (hey, we've had 3 straight 11 win seasons..I'm not used to losingjimjom wrote:I hear you man, RR's gone and that's a good thing. You have to understand that this is Pitt's biggest victory in a couple decades. Looking forward to a competitive rivalry with you guys again.

1. I have 1,700 reasons to prove I'm not a troll.ExPatriatePen wrote:Doesn't that say volumes???....jimjom wrote:Pitt's biggest victory in a couple decades.
(with all due apologies to the other Pitt fans who aren't 13-9 posting trolls)

2. I was a bit brash and not a very gracious winner when we won, I will admit that.
3. In the post above, I said I am looking forward to a competitive rivalry that means something. To be honest, I set my dvr for the game because I had to go to a work party that night -- I figured it would be lopsided. Now, I watched it 3 times in the next 24 hours and a few times since-- It wasn't lopsided. If your team was 4-7 and you knocked off the #2 team in the country, wouldn't you be excited? Take it easy, knock off the jabs.

Right back at ya sport.jimjom wrote:Take it easy, knock off the jabs.
The discussion was about the Nailers promotion and about why WVU fans feel the way they do about RR.
Then you jumped in with 13-9.
Fine, no problem.... but if you're going to dish it out, then you need to be able to take a little 5-7 ribbing like a man too.

Absolutely, you're right. 5-7 is not an ideal season, as noted before I am looking forward to next year and meaningful games with your team. My girlfriend is from Wheeling and is a huge WVU fan.ExPatriatePen wrote:Right back at ya sport.jimjom wrote:Take it easy, knock off the jabs.
